This shoot was set by a broad riverbank in the city. The sunlight was wonderful, and the water glistened under the wind—just looking at it refreshed one's mood. The tone of this photo set was kept bright and translucent. Before shooting, I agreed with the photographer that we wanted that dynamic feeling brought by the breeze, rather than being confined to posing in a studio.
This blue-and-white dress has rich layers. A veil, a ruffled dress, and blue-and-white bows make it visually light and airy. Combined with white stockings with garter straps, the whole look carries a very fresh texture. To restore the character's feel, the wig was styled and trimmed many times to make the front ends look natural, paired with turquoise highlights in hopes of making the overall frame's colors richer. Makeup was kept minimal, focusing on clean translucency, as bright sunlight best tests base makeup quality.
During the shoot, we tried many sitting and standing poses. The stone steps along the river served as great props, utilizing water reflections to fill light on the face while leveraging elevation differences to elongate leg lines. Many friends looking at this set notice the pairing of white stockings and the skirt. Indeed, garter straps and white stockings depend heavily on light and angles. Under front-lit or side-lit conditions, white stockings look extremely textured, combining with natural skirt folds to sculpt great curves visually. That's why we deliberately sought natural light from different angles.
In the final set, there are a few moments I love especially—like the candid shot at the end standing on one leg while holding high heels. This pose tested balance heavily. The wind was strong that day, so the skirt kept fluttering; the photographer snapped several sets before picking the most natural frame. Although taking off shoes looks casual, the intention was to make the posture more relaxed without being limited to conventional sitting poses, letting the white stockings and leg lines become visual highlights. Much of outdoor photography's joy stems from such random uncertainties—hair blown loose by the wind or curves drawn by the skirt hem are vivid details post-processing cannot replicate.
Working with photographer @Zhuozhuo was super smooth. Before shooting, we communicated fully about wanting an atmospheric light-and-shadow vibe, and he utilized the water reflection and grand bridge background brilliantly. The architectural structure of the bridge formed a great framing composition, giving depth with foreground and background without feeling empty or stealing the spotlight from the character. For high-key, bright outdoor photography shots, slightly blown-out rim light actually creates a hazy, cozy summer vibe.
Putting on such intricate dresses always feels like a test of physical stamina and endurance, but feeling the breeze by the water and seeing finished shots in the viewfinder makes all preparations worthwhile. Capturing this set perfectly documented the most comfortable sunlight and river breeze of that afternoon.
