I took my massive treasure out for a shoot today—the very Nikon telephoto lens you see in the frame. Even though it is literally longer than my arm, to capture that intense visual impact and surreal forced-perspective effect, I powered through and held it up the entire afternoon. This time I did a Cheshire Cosplay from Azur Lane, dressed in her signature monochrome maid outfit with meticulously detailed headpieces and ruffles. Paired with a grey-blue highlighted wig and matching contact lenses, the warm lighting of the vintage Western-style villa beautifully complemented the character's temperament. Originally, this heavy gear was meant for the photographer, but I wanted to try taking a selfie while holding it myself—the shot you see was taken with one hand cradling the front of the lens barrel while the other operated the shutter behind the body. It took several attempts adjusting angles and focal lengths to finally find the right balance. Having that colossal lens dominate the left two-thirds of the frame while the subject is compressed into the right side not only emphasizes the exaggerated prop scale, but also makes the gaze appear intensely focused. During the shoot, I also explored the feel of this Nikon super-telephoto lens's focus ring—smooth zooming and remarkably stable vibration reduction. Despite the hefty weight, the resulting shots boast incredible edge-to-edge sharpness with barely any motion blur even in dim indoor light. That said, the most fascinating aspect of cosplay is how it breaks everyday proportions, using the contrast between body height and props to create visual interest. For instance, while I'm not particularly tall, pairing with this massive lens created a completely different kind of visual punch. For the overall lighting, warm side-backlight was used to cast a golden glow across hair strands and lace edges, with the crystal chandelier and carved wooden cabinet in the background providing rich depth. Minimal post-processing was done to preserve authentic skin textures and metallic lens reflections. I feel combining Portrait photography with cosplay is not just about capturing a pretty picture, but documenting that specific moment of connection between character and prop, which is why I treat every single shutter press with genuine dedication.
