[Rei Ayanami cosplay] Neon Genesis Evangelion × Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Collab: Cool Blue Tone Showcase

This shoot features a Rei Ayanami cosplay photo set based on the Goddess of Victory: NIKKE collaboration design. Since the character naturally carries a cool and detached demeanor, the outfit choice centered on a blue denim mini dress paired with translucent purple lace arm sleeves and a thigh garter. This combination retains the character's signature color palette while offering a more casual, everyday ambiance compared to traditional plugsuits.

In terms of posing, because no stockings were worn, accentuating the proportions of bare legs required extra care. The first shot utilized a white chair for a seated pose, stretching and extending the legs to elongate the silhouette. For the standing pose, I opted to slightly lift the hem of the dress, which not only revealed the thigh garter detail but also prevented the frame from looking rigid. A strong light source was placed on the left primarily as a backlight, outlining the edges of the pale blue wig with rim light while rendering the skin tone more luminous and translucent.

The entire shoot went smoothly, with the photographer executing precise control over angles and framing—especially in handling flares and highlights to achieve that hazy, dreamy anime aesthetic. For post-processing, a gentle soft-glow filter was preserved to keep the overall palette anchored in a cool blue hue. Inspired by the creative prompts of the Fan Content Festival and 2D Vision Project, this shoot served as a way to bring my personal vision of the character to life.

Regarding wig care, the light blue fibers needed repeated combing to stay free of frizz, and a subtle blue-purple pastel palette was selected for eyeshadow to match the cool tones. The biggest challenge with this costume was that blue denim tends to appear dull and grayish under studio lighting, which required boosting saturation and brightness in post-production. For the set, a home corner was arranged with white curtains, a white carpet, and a white chair so that the blue dress would remain the visual centerpiece. A display cabinet and strip lighting on the left added a touch of everyday life, softening the stiffness often found in plain studio sets. Various angles were tested during the session, such as standing with crossed legs or the upright pose lifting the hem as seen in image three, which effectively flattered curves and body lines. After repeated adjustments, the skirt-lifting pose in image three proved most effective for lengthening the legs while keeping the composition centered, making it the hero visual. Hopefully, these cosplay photography tips and insights will be useful to fellow creators.
