[Ling cosplay] Arknights Sui Family Group Shoot: Bidding Farewell to the Old and Welcoming the New Holding a Wine Flask

The highlight of this Sui family group shoot was hanging onto the wine flask and never letting go. On the day of the shoot, when I received the wine flask prepared by the prop team, I immediately felt that relaxed, easygoing aura of Ling traveling across the land. Looking at the materials and patterns of the entire costume, the detail restoration was extremely high—especially the layered feel of the red, white, and black color palette, which looked fantastic against the dark wooden background. To complement the character's cool white hair, we added extensive layering and texture to the wig, which, paired with red horns and pointed elf ears, created a striking Traditional Chinese style cosplay fantasy silhouette.

For makeup, we adopted a cool, gentle color palette to emphasize the serenity and nonchalance between the eyebrows and eyes. This was not only to fit the character of Ling, but also to blend seamlessly into the texture of the traditional Chinese wooden door and stone steps behind me. The dark wood textures and vermilion pillars in the background perfectly highlighted the solemn yet festive, everyday warmth unique to Sui family group photos.

The outfits everyone prepared for this shoot integrated their respective character elements while unifying within a distinctly Eastern worldbuilding aesthetic. Props like red lanterns, "Fu" Spring Festival couplets, and even the golden auspicious cloud staff held in hand visually maximized the ceremonial feeling of the New Year. At the venue, I literally walked around holding the wine flask all day, just as described. Whether sitting on the steps or leaning against a pillar, this prop genuinely added to the relaxed disposition of the character.

The camera positioning for the group shoot was very thought-out. Everyone took staggered positions standing and sitting. Combined with this cool-toned retro film color palette, it genuinely captured the cozy reunion feel of a "big family." The set was actually quite fun—during breaks, everyone was cautious about their standing and sitting postures to keep wigs and costumes pristine, but the moment "Action!" was called, everyone instantly locked into that festive New Year reunion state. While solo photos pursue the ultimate aesthetic beauty of an individual character, group photos focus more on authenticity and ambiance through group interaction—after all, managing positions and eye contact for six people is much harder than a solo pose.

This time, we tried combining dynamic snapshots with static posed shots. Line-ups standing on the steps, with each person holding props matching their personality and red lanterns set against dark backdrops, instantly delivered a visual impact of bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new. Meanwhile, the casual pose sitting on the steps looked even more authentic, staying closer to Ling's broad-minded, leisure-loving everyday state. The wine flask in my hand never left me from the moment shooting began, bonding strongly with the character persona.

Regarding lighting, we utilized soft, natural diffuse light from the surroundings without forcing hard rim lights, striving to retain environmental realism while making skin tones appear naturally clear and glowing. Beyond highlighting a traditional Chinese New Year theme, it brought out the color coordination on everyone. Shooting a Chinese-style theme like this in summer with heavy wigs and multi-layered clothing was certainly hot and stuffy, but seeing the final output made everything feel immensely worthwhile.

In post-processing, we avoided chasing overexposed dreamy effects, choosing instead to preserve the building's original dark shadow details and costume textures, fusing traditional New Year elements with fan-art fantasy aesthetics. The final image achieved a harmonious balance between traditional cultural weight and vibrant ACG colors. I'm personally extremely satisfied with the presentation of this Sui family group shoot; the chemistry among all six was seamless, with nobody stealing the spotlight and everyone projecting their character's presence from their respective positions. The wine flask stayed in my hands from start to finish, achieving high synchronization with Ling. That summarizes the overall approach and shoot reflections for this Ling cosplay—a truly delightful shooting experience.
