[Theresa Cosplay & Wishadel cosplay] Arknights' Rhythm and Art of Explosion

This time we focused on Theresa's Musical Rhythm design and Wishadel's sleek black jacket attire from Arknights. Reuniting with my longtime partner after half a year, we picked these two highly contrasting characters to share the screen and headed specifically to this offline Arknights-only event. The number of fans present far exceeded expectations. Though we shot plenty of outdoor photo sets, circling around, our favorite photos remained these few dual selfies taken casually in the cluttered yet familiar dressing room after wrapping up. Although the lighting here isn't studio-grade, paired with a slightly high-angle selfie perspective, it makes facial highlights appear remarkably soft, rendering skin texture under natural light much more authentic.

Theresa's gradient silver-white-pink wig took quite a lot of effort to process. Since the color span is wide, transitions had to be natural, or it would look disjointed. Bang length and strand directions were critical; any slight slip could cover essential contact lenses. Thus, during styling, I deliberately combed the front bangs so they perfectly framed the brows and eyes. The pair of black geometric headpieces atop her head was made with lightweight materials and positioning supports. While holding a sharp, upright shape when worn, finding angles to avoid revealing hairpin marks in selfies required careful positioning—hence, eye directions and subtle profile angles in these photos were repeatedly adjusted.

Wishadel's makeup and styling focused heavily on aggressiveness and sleekness. Her silver-grey short wig pursued a naturally scattered messiness; to achieve a flowing yet supported effect, the hair interior underwent intricate thinning and texture shaping. Those striking red curved horn decorations are actually quite heavy. Though modified to reduce weight, load-bearing had to be considered to prevent tilting. During shooting, we leveraged their unique shape combined with side-profile angles so the red horns found visual balance within the frame without looking jarring.

Regarding photography techniques, we mainly used the phone's 2x telephoto lens for close-ups, which compresses facial perspective well and avoids nose distortion caused by close-range selfies. Although the background contained coat hangers and clutter, placing the subjects dead-center and framing them with the top wardrobe frame and light background board effectively pushed messy elements to the margins. Wishadel's iconic black jacket collar with red stripes and Theresa's minimalist white outfit with a black bow tie stood out vividly against this backdrop, achieving just the right color contrast.

For makeup, clear distinctions were made to match each character's temperament precisely. Theresa's makeup leaned toward soft innocence: pink-purple contact lenses paired with pearlescent shimmering eyeshadow and subtly drawn aegyo sal gave her gaze deep emotional expression. Wishadel, on the other hand, switched to sharp gold contact lenses; I drew wing-tipped eyeliner and slightly darkened the lower eyelid, which paired with a matte foundation and nude lip shade to capture the character's confident, cool aura.

Partner chemistry reached its peak during this collaboration. With almost no need for verbal communication, a single glance or hand gesture was enough to know the desired angle. She is the type who keenly catches light, while I focus on whether details are in place; this complementarity boosted our shooting efficiency significantly. Looking back at our first attempt at this work half a year ago, we were somewhat awkward and rigid before the camera. Now, both naturalness of expressions and fluidity of poses have improved immensely. This stems not only from a deeper understanding of characters, but also from numerous private practice sessions together.

The atmosphere at the Arknights-only convention also served as a catalyst for these Convention photos. Seeing fellow fans around who love the same title instantly relieved any tension. Compared to forced posing, this relaxed state of being immersed in the convention as the character makes capturing genuine, candid moments much easier. Even if the backdrop is slightly messy, as long as the mood is right, the emotion conveyed in the photos hits the mark. I'm thrilled to record these two sharply contrasting characters in the same frame through this cosplay effort, and I hope for more opportunities to share similar offline styling moments in the future.
