[Cecilia cosplay] Insights on My Roommate's Third Handmade Honkai Impact 3rd Costume

This Cecilia costume was hand-sewn by my roommate, marking the third Honkai Impact 3rd outfit she has made for me. When receiving the physical piece, her progress in craftsmanship was clearly noticeable. The main body of the garment uses black faux leather, with gold piping along the seam edges. The white V-neck inner lining across the chest, paired with gold embroidery along the collar, makes the overall silhouette exceptionally crisp.

The shoulders feature a cutout design, complemented by black-base, gold-trimmed draped shoulder straps, and the golden horn-shaped headpiece on top—all cut and crafted bit by bit referencing character art. Aside from the costume, the wig was from Lingcang with generous volume, making the silver-white long hairstyle relatively easy to manage. Additionally, I paired it with black gloves; the fingertips were tailored quite crisply, accentuating hand contours distinctly once worn.

The outfit fits snugly, especially the high-waisted shorts and the wide middle belt, which beautifully elongate leg lines. However, this also placed certain restrictions on posing—deep bending or sitting down created a tight tension. Therefore, during shooting, I leaned toward standing or slightly turning sideways, utilizing hand gestures to aid composition—such as raising a black-gloved hand near the cheek or resting it on the belt. This not only minimized the visual distraction of leather creasing, but also kept the overall silhouette sleek and sharp.

The photos were shot indoors against a white sheer curtain backdrop, with cool-toned natural light filtering through doors and windows. This cool lighting casting across the black-and-gold outfit produced a subtle blue sheen, perfectly echoing her light-blue eyes. We didn't use overly complicated lighting gear during the shoot, mainly relying on natural light and body movements.

Regarding the character herself, Cecilia's lore commands a strong, imposing aura, so I deliberately maintained a calm facial expression, looking straight into the lens. The eyebrows and eye makeup were also tailored, deepening the red eyeshadow to give the gaze greater depth.

My roommate dedicated immense effort when crafting this outfit. Referencing original concept art and detail sheets, especially stringing together bead by bead for the golden tassel neck ornament, took considerable time. The leather stitching is dense and resilient against deformation. From making the first outfit for me to this third one now, her Handmade skills have visibly improved. I truly admire how she managed the entire journey independently, from material selection to the finished garment.

After receiving the outfit, I did multiple fitting adjustments. Accounting for individual body differences, she fine-tuned proportions according to my figure, making it fit exceptionally well. Every time I wear such a textured Cosplay costume, I feel character immersion increases significantly, as the garment's intricate details alone are enough to draw you in.

It was somewhat tiring on the shoot day because leather isn't breathable, and adjusting the lighting took quite a while. But reviewing the raw shots after wrapping, the outfit's texture was fully showcased, and the overall ambiance harmonized perfectly. Inside and out, this costume avoids overly flashy ornaments, excelling through tailoring and palette—a minimalist design that truly tests craftsmanship. I'm thrilled to have completed this shoot wearing this outfit, serving as a fulfilling showcase for my roommate's hard work during this time. Moving forward, I'll also try shooting action-oriented or specific themed scenes to bring out another facet of the character.
