This time I brought Cartethyia from Wuthering Waves, styling her in a JK uniform campus look for an outdoor convention photoshoot. The backdrop was chosen by the roadside railings marked with caution tape; the ambient light was quite harsh, but after bouncing light with reflectors, the skin tone looked very translucent, and the midday shooting turned out quite well. The outfit was paired with a gray knit cardigan and a blue plaid skirt, accented with White stockings and black leather shoes, focusing on highlighting the contrast between the original character's elf ears and blue headpiece against this uniform. During the shoot, we tried several sets of poses, including making bunny ears with hands, crouching beside the bag, lifting one leg while stepping forward, and pointing at the camera. To match the light and shadow dynamics of the White stockings and long legs, I kept my movements as elongated and expressive as possible. The composition in Photo 2 features lifting one leg while reaching out toward the camera with the subject centered, displaying body proportions and leg lines quite completely, making it ideal as a cover image.
The biggest challenge during the shoot was that the roadside lighting was too intense, making it easy to squint, which required constant observation of lighting shifts. In post-processing, PixCake was used for facial detail refinement, primarily adjusting facial contours and utilizing the shadow-brightening function to eliminate eye dullness, making the blue eyes clearer and brighter. White stockings are prone to overexposure under harsh sunlight, so highlights had to be suppressed while sharpening the stockings' texture to ensure they didn't look artificial. During shooting, care was taken not to push the subject too close to the edges, leaving ample room in the composition. There were many passersby, and pressing the shutter each time meant waiting for traffic to clear. Trying a full JK uniform instead of the original costume design gave this character a fresh aesthetic. PixCake's skin retouching and liquify tools worked effectively, precisely preserving the woolen texture of the clothes without giving off a blurry filter look. Post-processing color adjustments focused on blue-gray tones to unify the headpiece and plaid skirt.
Beyond the leg-lift shot, the pose crouching in front of the bag with both fists propping up the chin also turned out great; that sweeter, obedient vibe contrasted distinctively with the character's typical mature, cool aura. During shooting, I kept reminding the stylist to adhere the elf ears naturally, which, paired with the long braided plaits, instantly created a wonderful atmosphere. Retouching this shoot took extra time to refine the terminator line on the White stockings, subtly sculpting contours to prevent the legs from looking swollen. For outdoor gear, a DSLR paired with a wide-aperture prime lens was used, producing beautiful light circles from background cars and railings. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this Cartethyia Cosplay convention outdoor photoshoot—showcasing an alternative campus-style charm of the character through the JK uniform and White stockings. Many on-site attendees also asked about the character; the contrast of blending this 2D style into everyday school uniforms was really interesting. All in all, location selection, makeup, and post-processing aligned smoothly, with leg proportions and stocking textures accurately crafted to achieve the desired effect. The final photos look pleasing and comfortable, making the effort under the scorching sun completely worthwhile.
