[Firefly cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: A Custom design cosplay Look in a Midsummer Dream

The photos shared this time are a Custom design cosplay of Firefly from Honkai: Star Rail. Choosing to shoot while the hydrangeas were in full bloom was mainly because summer resonates deeply with Firefly's character imagery. For the custom design, I selected a pale blue-green Lolita dress with abundant layers and lace, creating an overall gentler, softer look.

For makeup, I primarily pursued translucency. Under natural lighting, heavy shadows can easily look muddy, so the focus was placed on delineating the eye makeup. The false eyelashes were applied naturally, and the eyeshadow featured subtle earth tones with a hint of mint green to echo the dress. The wig was long, wavy, silver-white hair with bangs, styled with braids and gentle curls.

The dress design is quite intricate, with multi-tiered lace, ruffles, semi-sheer sleeves, and White stockings. This styling imposes certain movement restrictions: for instance, crouching requires careful handling of the petticoat, while raising an arm demands ensuring the drape of the sleeves falls gracefully. In my hands, I held a classical round fan, which served as a prop to naturally occupy hand placement.

Regarding lighting arrangement, the photographer utilized side backlighting so the light pierced the edges of the semi-sheer sleeves, creating a gorgeous rim light. The background hydrangeas were softly blurred in this Hydrangea photography, making the main subject stand out. The first photo is a crouching pose with closed eyes, keeping my balance steady with head tilted slightly upward to evoke a feeling of being lost in a dream; the second is a standing pose with open eyes, looking directly into the lens with a faint smile to give the image a conversational warmth.

In truth, shooting amidst flower bushes is quite fussy to manage. Hydrangea leaves catch on the skirt's lace easily, and while maintaining an elegant posture while crouching, the shins and knees frequently press against dry twigs on the ground. However, because the overall palette was harmonious and the resulting photos were so fresh, it felt entirely worthwhile.

Post-color grading leaned toward cool, dreamy aesthetics—lowering green saturation while enhancing blues and purplish pinks, which accentuated the texture of the dress and the details of the White stockings. The pacing of the shoot was very comfortable, avoiding exaggerated poses in favor of conveying pure emotion.

As for why this Custom design cosplay was chosen, the original armor design is quite rigid and structured; while dashing, it is hard to integrate into soft scenery like summer hydrangeas. A Custom design cosplay offered a great balance: keeping the character's core color palette and long white hair, but swapping fabric materials for flowy tulle and lace. This captured her ethereal nimbleness while fitting the midsummer theme. In composition, the photographer experimented with low angles, using the flower blossoms as a foreground to deepen the sense of spatial dimension.

During the shoot, we tested various sitting and standing poses to highlight the leg lines. Although the skirt hem was long, paired with White stockings, the legs looked exceptionally slender from specific angles, serving as another highlight of this shoot. The round fan, through adjusting its orientation, helped guide gaze and light, enhancing breathing room in the composition.

Ultimately, the final photos retained natural textures without excessive skin-smoothing, only gently removing minor blemishes to give the skin a radiant glow that perfectly matches this dreamy midsummer ambiance.
