[Rem cosplay] Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World Swimsuit Photoshoot Log

When we set up the camera by the poolside, the sun was beating down fiercely across the sparkling water. For this session, I chose to bring the Rem swimsuit to life, channeling the iconic mantra: 'From the beginning... no, starting from zero!' To stay faithful to the character, I dedicated three full evenings to trimming and styling this blue wig. Rem's short bob is iconic—the blunt bangs had to brush the eyebrows precisely without obstructing vision, the sidelocks needed to contour the face closely, and the placement of the blue ribbon and crossed pink hairpins on top was repeatedly cross-checked against reference art. In terms of makeup, to combat intense outdoor sunlight, I deepened my eye contours: bright blue contact lenses paired with dense false lashes, with eyeliner subtly angled downward at the outer corners to capture her tender, innocent gaze. For the base makeup, I chose an ultra-long-wear foundation, as sweat and water are the greatest enemies of a poolside shoot.

The wardrobe is a remarkably well-designed swimsuit concept: a semi-sheer white sailor-style top retaining the classic sailor collar and blue stripes, accented with a vibrant yellow necktie and a central red clasp serving as an eye-catching focal point. Because the fabric is light and airy, risking slight translucency when splashed or submerged, I layered color-matched undergarments beneath. Below, I wore a white pleated skirt and full-length White stockings. These stockings deserve special mention—they feature blue garter straps and lace trim around the thighs, as well as blue ornamental patterns at the ankles, faithfully mirroring the character's intricate canon details. Despite being right next to a pool, wearing tights under the blazing sun was stiflingly hot, but for the sake of the overall aesthetic, every bit of effort was worth it.

During the shoot, I perched on a white inflatable swim ring. This prop not only fit the poolside theme organically but also helped accentuate leg lines and waist silhouettes. To make the frames dynamic, I tried several playful gestures—flashing peace signs or framing my cheeks with both hands. Strong upward reflections bouncing off the water could easily cast awkward shadows across the face, requiring continuous adjustments to my chin angle to ensure even illumination. Sitting on the float actually demanded serious core stability: maintaining an upright posture while crossing my legs to highlight the stocking texture and leg contours meant that the slightest slouch immediately looked lifeless.

Shooting outdoors in high heat was a true test of stamina and willpower. Sweat constantly trickled down my cheeks; to keep the makeup pristine, my assistant had to gently blot with tissues between shots. After wrapping each sequence, we quickly retreated to the shade to hydrate and touch up. The poolside pavement was slick, so walking in tights required extreme caution to prevent slipping. Yet reviewing the shots in-camera made all the hardship vanish—the shimmering azure of the water harmonized exquisitely with the character's blue palette.

The color grading preserved the authentic warmth of the sunlight without excessive post-processing, aiming to deliver a genuine summer atmosphere. Behind every cosplay lies genuine passion and devotion to the character. From fabric sourcing and hair styling to synchronizing lighting and poses on set, every step deserves careful refinement. This session provided invaluable experience in outdoor waterside photography—from controlling exposure under glaring reflections to utilizing props for richer compositions—and I'm delighted to share it with everyone.
