Missing out on the official Firefly figure left a persistent itch in my heart, so I simply booked a photographer to shoot an outdoor set for this Firefly cosplay. To stay as faithful as possible to Firefly's styling in Honkai: Star Rail, considerable effort went into pre-production. The costume was custom-tailored: the Sailor suit top needed a crisp, structured drape, while the teal ribbon bow on the collar, double-breasted golden buttons, and black cuff striping were all strictly crafted according to the original artwork. The wig featured a silver-white to mint-green gradient, ensuring the turquoise tips transitioned softly rather than harshly; paired with a black headband and feather-accented hairpieces, it achieved rich dimensionality. For the lower half, a grey-blue pleated plaid skirt was paired with patterned White stockings and brown loafers, harmonizing the overall aesthetic seamlessly for this Anime cosplay.
Props were handled with equal care: the flower bouquet was wrapped in kraft paper, featuring blossoms curated in shades of pink, white, and blue, tied with a purple-and-yellow striped ribbon. The shopping bag carried in my other hand was also sourced to closely mirror the design in the official artwork. Although tracking down these details was tedious, they undeniably elevated the overall authenticity of the cosplay.
The biggest challenge on the day of the shoot was undoubtedly that signature pose from the artwork. It was practically an anatomically defying mid-air jump, requiring not only expansive, dynamic posture, but also a relaxed, buoyant facial expression. To capture that exact instant, I jumped and spun in place along that European-style street for over half an hour. While I managed a smile early on, spinning dozens of times left me dizzy, disoriented, and fighting to maintain facial composure. Photographer @好烦一直想拍照 was phenomenal—patiently adjusting shutter speed and burst mode settings as we repeatedly experimented with the timing of every leap. In the final edits, the flared arc of the skirt caught by the breeze, the trajectory of floating hair strands, and the layered depth of the bouquet in my hand forged an enchanting resonance with the 2D illustration in this Anime cosplay.
From initial concept to final execution, this set refrained from complex post-production CGI, relying predominantly on lighting setups and natural golden sunlight to evoke that vibrant, lively essence seen in the original illustration. To capture that dreamy, warm lighting from the painting, we specifically selected a street corner bathed in afternoon sun. Running back and forth across the location, adjusting positioning and jump trajectories, was physically exhausting. Yet seeing the striking fidelity between the final images and the original Honkai: Star Rail artwork made every minute of dizziness and sweat entirely worthwhile.
