[Firefly Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail, A Touch of Tenderness Belonging to the Star Rail

Bringing you the finished Firefly cosplay photos from Honkai: Star Rail this time. Before shooting, I actually hesitated for a long time on how to present this character's temperament—she possesses both the softness of a traveler and a certain underlying tenacity. Ultimately, we set the scene in an interior with large wooden frames and floral arrangements, utilizing natural light streaming through the window frames to create a warm yet soft backlit effect, which I feel aligns wonderfully with her character.

For this shoot, processing the wig took a considerable amount of time. Although Firefly's hairstyle is long and wavy, the key lies in the volume at the top and that subtle teal gradient at the tips. We spliced two wigs together and performed meticulous washing, trimming, and section dyeing to make the transition look so natural. The bangs were trimmed delicately, and paired with that brown headband embellished with star-shaped metal accents, it immediately captured the character's visual identity. The position and tightness of the headband were also adjusted repeatedly to ensure it wouldn't slip during shooting while maintaining a full head shape.

For Cosplay makeup, subtraction and addition were applied thoughtfully. The base makeup pursued clean translucency, with the focus placed on the eyes. These pale blue contact lenses are very refreshing; combined with reddish-orange eyeshadow blending and layered fine glitter, they can catch the light in the eyes under backlit conditions, looking exceptionally spirited. For lip makeup, I chose a subtle shimmer rose-orange shade—not overly aggressive, yet bright enough to enhance the complexion, making the overall look softer. The eyeliner wasn't drawn too long, but followed the natural eye shape to highlight that innocent yet determined gaze.

The color-blocking design on the costume is very distinctive: the outer layer is a dark coffee and black lapel jacket, while the inner top features aqua blue geometric paneling, providing strong contrast and layering. The golden bow tie and golden claw-shaped wrist accessories are the highlights of the outfit, and these metallic-textured accessories really stood out in greenhouse photography. During shooting, my biggest concern was reflection from golden accessories, so I specifically controlled the lighting angle during fill lighting to keep them lustrous without glare. The white ruffled cuffs added lightness and dreaminess to the overall look, and combined with white lace arm sleeves, even simple movements like holding a bouquet presented great body lines.

Regarding props, we didn't choose Firefly's other iconic weapons, but opted for a flower bouquet instead. This bouquet was primarily composed of white roses and pine foliage, dotted with small yellow-stamen flowers, packaged simply with pure white paper. The soft beauty and white-and-green palette of the bouquet perfectly balanced the rigid geometric splicing and metal decorations on the costume, making the overall visuals more harmonious and balanced.

Lighting on the day of the shoot wasn't particularly ideal—clouds were somewhat thick, and sunlight came and went. Luckily, we waited right for the moment the sun broke through, with light pouring directly through the glass windows behind me onto my head, making the teal at the tips of the wig look exceptionally translucent in the sunlight. The photographer helped me adjust angles throughout, searching for that flowing, airy feeling. To overcome occasional messy bangs caused by wind, we captured shots candidly while adjusting. During post-processing, we intentionally avoided over-sharpening, retaining the depth-of-field background blur and the sunlit grain texture of greenhouse greenery, maintaining the overall image within a comfortable, low-saturation warm color palette that better conveys a relaxed and tranquil visual experience.

Throughout creating this set of finished photos, every single detail was repeatedly refined with the makeup artist and photographer. The character's design features many details worth examining closely, and only through restoring the costume, makeup, and props can that dimensional feeling be conveyed. Compared to sharp and exquisite studio shoots, I actually lean toward this warm light-and-shadow style, bringing the character closer to a lived-in feel while preserving the dreamy aura unique to Anime cosplay. I hope this set transmits the quiet tranquility and beauty unique to Firefly from Honkai: Star Rail.
