For this shoot, I chose Taihou cosplay from Azur Lane and made some special modifications to the costume design, retaining the character's classic red-and-white color scheme while incorporating more Modified Chinese style stand-up collar tailoring. The top is made of glossy red fabric that reflects beautifully under warm lighting. The teardrop cut-out at the chest paired with a textured white inner layer captures the original design's blend of opulence and lightness while significantly enhancing the overall depth and layering.
For the headpiece and styling, the gold filigree hair crown was an element where no detail could be overlooked—embellished with red cords, blue tassels, and bead strands. Paired with a high black ponytail wig and custom red contact lenses, it perfectly brings out the character's confident yet playfully alluring gaze. The eye makeup slightly emphasized the upper and lower eyeliner, complemented by matching red lips to give the facial expression more definition on camera. When paired with this halter-neck top, the golden frog button and fine chain accents around the neck also seamlessly carried over the outfit's metallic textures.
Prop usage played a crucial role in this shoot. For the first photo, I chose a traditional embroidered round fan whose red-and-white floral design echoes the outfit nicely; holding the fan while lightly resting my chin on my hand conveys a gentle and subtly languid aura. In the second photo, I switched to a large wooden plucked string instrument. Holding the body of the instrument required extra attention to arm posture—gripping the neck firmly to prevent slipping while ensuring the instrument did not overly obscure body curves. Fortunately, the final composition and lighting worked together naturally.
To cultivate the overall atmosphere, the set designer specifically constructed an autumn-themed backdrop. The background was tastefully arranged with crimson maple leaves, a wooden chessboard, and white flowers in a vase. Under this warm-toned side backlighting, the red garment creates a subtle visual resonance with the autumn foliage, while highlights glint across the golden hair accessories and lapels, imbuing the scene with a vintage, mysterious warmth. Skin tones were also beautifully softened in this lighting ambiance.
Much thought was also put into the bottom half of the styling. Black shorts paired with full-length black fishnet stockings cosplay and solid black lace garter bands at the upper thighs effectively balance the visual weight of the outfit, counteracting any visual heaviness from the dominant red on top. The texture of the fishnet stockings under side lighting elevates both the modern flair and allure of the character, matching the overall vibe exceptionally well.
During post-processing, my main focus was unifying the color harmony between skin tones and the ambient lighting, while moderately subduing distracting background hues to focus viewer attention on the character. Contrast was finely adjusted to make the textures of the red outfit and gold ornaments pop, without applying overly heavy filters—since the set's inherent lighting was already rich enough to carry the narrative.
From initial makeup trials and accessory sourcing to the actual photoshoot, this look took a considerable amount of preparation time, and I am very satisfied with the final results. This Anime cosplay blending Modified Chinese style with shipgirl elements maintains strong character recognition while allowing for interactive traditional prop storytelling.
