[Black Swan cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — A Frame of Mystery and Elegance - Image 1

Portraying Black Swan this time required tremendous effort, starting with the wig alone. To give that pale lavender hair both buoyant volume and defined layers, trimming and texturing took several hours, all to evoke that effortlessly languid yet secretive aura. For the makeup, the eyes were the absolute focal point of the face: I blended purplish-red eyeshadow across a wide gradient, paired with violet colored contacts and extended eyeliner, aiming to give the gaze piercing depth. The lips were finished in a muted, matte crimson, lowering the saturation slightly so the visual weight stayed anchored on the eyes.

The costume and props were equally refined down to the millimeter. The blue hood was lined with internal millinery wire so it wouldn't collapse or lose shape on my head, and sourcing the exact textures for the front black leather straps and silver buckles took extensive searching. The purple bodysuit and black leather harnesses required multiple adjustments for fit—especially the metallic rings and buckles around the waist, which had to fit snugly without risking wardrobe malfunctions during broader movement. The colorful geometric embellishments on the chest were handcrafted piece by piece using epoxy resin, creating a luminous, translucent sheen under studio lighting. The rings and gloves served as another highlight: the black-tipped fingers spliced against the purple glove sleeves made hand gestures look remarkably slender.

Because the character features numerous flowing, draped elements, we chose a wide-angle lens shot from a low perspective. This not only elongated the leg lines, but also created immense visual drama around the glossy patent-leather boots in the foreground. These platform boots are genuinely hefty, making floor-seated poses physically demanding. To maintain balance while striking that effortless, languid recline, I constantly shifted my center of gravity—leaning the torso back slightly, stretching one leg out while gently bending the other knee, allowing the photographer to capture the full leg contours and the boots' sheen. Beneath the studio lights, the black-and-white checkered floor tiles and scattered card props echoed the specular highlights dancing across the boots.

Throughout the shoot, the photographer kept reminding me to drop my shoulders and avoid forcing the gaze—just looking into the lens naturally. After experimenting with different angles, we found that this slight downward tilt of the head best captured Black Swan's inscrutable, all-seeing persona. Overall, the finished photos met my exact expectations; from pre-production prop crafting to lighting and lens coordination on set, everyone poured immense heart into every step.
