When shooting this Artoria Pendragon (Lily) cosplay set for our Cosplay photoshoot, we caught the softest lighting window of the day. Having studied the character's design countlessly beforehand, I finally had the chance to shoot this white battle dress outdoors. The sun was positioned directly behind me, creating an intense Backlit atmosphere; by using railings as a foreground element, we captured a luminous, translucent glow shining through the strands of hair and the flutter of the skirt.
Regarding wardrobe, the white dress fabric is exceptionally light and airy, while the black contrasting lines along the waist and chest add distinct visual depth. To maintain an upright and poised silhouette, my posture required continuous adjustment throughout the session. The prop sword in hand was actually quite heavy; keeping a steady grip on the hilt while projecting a commanding presence made my arms ache. Pairing the dress with White stockings and high heels visually elongated the leg line, and capturing the breeze lifting the hemline brought the canon design faithfully to life.
Before shooting, I discussed the intended composition with the photographer. To convey the character's serene, aloof nature, we opted for a side profile gazing into the distance. Photo one captures the exact moment right after lowering the sword, with the skirt swept high by the wind to create an effortless flowing effect; photo two features a front-facing close-up holding the sword, emphasizing facial contours and costume details. Because the lighting angles were complex, holding reflectors took considerable time, and post-processing preserved the natural halation alongside a subtle misty softness.
The sheer fabric of these White stockings is relatively lightweight, though thankfully lined to prevent wardrobe malfunctions, though shooting on a gusty day certainly required extra caution. The prop sword's paint job is highly accurate, featuring a semi-translucent blue-violet blade that looked stunning under the sunlight. Deliberately choosing stone railings with classical carvings as the backdrop harmonized seamlessly with the character's overall aesthetic.
The temperature was quite high on the day of the shoot; while wearing a dress felt relatively breezy, standing under direct sunlight in a wig still brought plenty of sweat. During breaks, I touched up my makeup twice and cooled down with ice cream. Though exhausting, seeing the final selects made every effort worthwhile. Post-production primarily focused on removing background crowd clutter and enhancing depth within the lighting and shadows. Heartfelt thanks once again to the photographer for their patient guidance; capturing these two posing sets repeatedly over nearly two hours led to our most satisfying shots.
