[Mash cosplay] Fate/Grand Order: Heavy Post-processing Log for Kouhai Eggplant

This set of photos came from digging through an old hard drive. After shooting back then, they sat unposted for various reasons, so taking advantage of some recent downtime, I redid the entire Post-processing from scratch. Being an earlier project combined with my aesthetic understanding of 2D cosplay photography at the time, the editing hand was undeniably heavy—this is definitely a high-retouch set.

The character here is Mash Kyrielight from Fate/Grand Order. During prep, I chose a pastel lavender-pink bob wig, precision-trimming it to shoulder length with blunt straight bangs to faithfully capture her hairstyle silhouette. On cosmetics, honoring the official design meant wearing luminous cyan-violet contact lenses alongside soft petal-pink blush and lip tint, striving to express Kouhai's signature tender, lovable sweetness. The biggest challenge was her eyeglasses: due to that distinctive under-rim half-frame design being rare on the market, I ended up hand-modifying the frame wire to barely achieve the desired look.

For the wardrobe, the upper half features a white sleeveless polo shirt accented by floral-print turn-down collars and ruffled armhole trims. The lower half coordinates with a matching midi-length floral dress skirt, finished along the hem with a tiered white ruffle border. To elevate visual layering and charm, a vibrant bright-pink wide satin ribbon bow was tied across the side waist. The legs were styled in semi-sheer White stockings paired with white pointed-toe stiletto pumps, creating immaculate monochromatic harmony.

To capture the intended mood, these frames were shot as mirror selfies indoors. Mirror shots heavily test composition and light control; diffused daylight filtering softly through sheer window drapes established the perfect hazy, ethereal glow. I explored varying postures before the mirror: the first mid-body close-up highlighted facial makeup and collar craftsmanship, where I gently brushed my fingers against the lapel with a softened gaze; the full-body frame utilized a subtle rear leg lift, cleanly flattering the silhouette of the dress and leg lines. Elevated by the White stockings, the posture injected kinetic grace without looking rigid.

Regarding the heavy Post-processing, adjustments centered on porcelain skin smoothing, lighting diffusion, and tonal grading. To manifest that ethereal 2D glow, I reduced global contrast, amplified specular highlights and soft-focus bloom, and overlaid subtle chromatic aberrations and liquid light-leak textures along the margins to evoke a dreamlike ambiance. While some details might not hold up under microscope inspection today, it stands as an honest archival record of my aesthetic interpretation at that moment.

Cosplay is not merely about character replication; it serves as a personal medium to express what we love. From cosmetics and styling to ambient lighting and color grading, every single stage represents an endeavor to reach the soul of that character. Exaggerated though the edits may be, every shutter release and slider tweak was an absolute joy. This photo set preserves who I was back then alongside my purest, rawest affection for this character.
