[Cartethyia Cosplay] The Elf of Wuthering Waves: Freezing Coolness and Elegance Before the Lens - Image 1
[Cartethyia Cosplay] The Elf of Wuthering Waves: Freezing Coolness and Elegance Before the Lens - Image 2

Before shooting this cosplay photoshoot, I repeatedly checked the appearance features and inner temperament of the character Cartethyia. Her sense of coolness wrapped in detachment, along with an elegance that doesn't lose mystery, was the key focal point I wanted to express through this makeup and photography session. During the early prep, the photographer "Jinghe_Daren" and I communicated repeatedly about the application of light and shadow as well as the scene arrangement, hoping that through color and composition, the advantages of this costume could be completely displayed.

Let's talk about the makeup and styling details this time. For this light golden long wig, to stay closer to the character's setting, I spent nearly two hours sectioning and braiding the hair. Aside from the originally fluffy texture, I had to fix the braids at the crown and integrate that black mark in the middle of the forehead with the overall facial makeup through styling. Paired with ice-blue contact lenses, the gaze naturally exuded a sense of coldness without needing too much facial expression modification. I especially love the elf ear accessories worn this time; not only is the shape natural, but the blue waterdrop decorations dangling from the tips can reflect fine micro-lights when illuminated, creating a wonderful visual resonance with the blue-and-white thorny ice crown on my head.

Regarding the costume, the layering and material combination of this outfit are highly outstanding. A black high-neck inner piece is paired with a white outer coat featuring subtle patterns, while the waist and abdomen section uses a light pink patchwork fabric. The shoulder straps, neckline, and clothing hem are also embellished with golden embroidered lines and metal buttons. This rich color palette and detail give the character's temperament a highly noble yet fantasy-filled vibe. Adding the folding fan prop with its golden frame and patterns in hand—although it was quite heavy to hold and made my arms ache after a while—its texture and colors perfectly align with the costume elements. To prevent the prop from looking stiff, we experimented with several fan-holding postures and angles during the shoot, striving to present a light and agile feel in the frame.

This time, we specifically selected an indoor venue featuring large stained glass windows as our shooting location. Cool-toned blue and white light hit my body, combined with the warm-toned light filtering through the background stained glass; this interweaving cold and warm visual effect perfectly matches the character's inherently mysterious and high-cold atmosphere. For the first close-up half-body shot, I placed the visual focus on the facial emotions and headwear details, utilizing a slightly tilted upward head angle to let the light hit the wig and forehead mark, keeping my gaze as ethereal as possible to bring out that slightly melancholic and detached demeanor. The second image adopted a highly tilted composition, pulling back the focus to blend the full costume, hand-held prop, and background stained glass into the frame; this sense of perspective made the overall photo atmosphere more complete and full of tension.

Don't look at how composed I appeared in the photos; actually, because the headwear was quite substantial and the elf ear-clips caused a bit of discomfort after being worn for a long time, I had to constantly adjust my posture and expression management throughout. The entire shooting process lasted four to five hours, but when finally seeing the completed photos, I felt all the hard work and physical fatigue received their reward. Huge thanks to "Jinghe_Daren" for their professional snapshots; their capture of movements and expressions was incredibly precise, allowing me to bring the Cartethyia from my heart out of the world of Wuthering Waves and into the reality of the lens. Recording this deeply invested creation with this set of photos truly brings a massive sense of achievement, making it a perfect submission for the Wuthering Waves Creator Incentive.
