On the day of the shoot, temperatures pushed close to 35°C, leaving the open-air pool water somewhat lukewarm under the sun, yet stepping into the water was instantly refreshing. An outdoor swimsuit shoot for Roxy has long been on my wishlist. To stay true to the character, I chose a vibrant blue long wig, braiding and setting the twin plaits the night before to keep stray hairs from fraying during the shoot. The School swimsuit fabric hugs the curves snugly and becomes heavier once submerged, yet sitting poolside or standing waist-deep in the water accentuated body contours all the more effectively.
The glare of the sunlight was blinding, forcing me to open my eyes directly against the bright midday sun while the photographer caught candid shots of me flicking wet hair and splashing water. In the second shot, kicking my legs suspended over the pool edge demanded constant core stability to maintain balance, as the slick tile rim could easily have sent me sliding right in. Pairing the blue mosaic tiles with the white fence and lush greenery in the background created rich chromatic depth; combined with my blue hair, the cool tones offered an instant sense of relief against the summer heat. Gentle gusts stirred soft ripples across the surface, sending a crisp chill from my toes throughout my body.
Wading through the water, the natural buoyancy eased walking compared to dry ground. Inflatable swim rings drifting across the surface served as wonderful interactive props—resting against one or gently pushing it aside added organic playfulness to the composition. Toward the latter half of the shoot, the tips of the braids inevitably soaked up water, clinging damply against my arms and lending an unposed, candid slice-of-life charm.
Because the character carries a quiet, contemplative disposition, I reined in wide grins, relying mostly on subtle upward glances or side profiles to capture her essence. The reddish eye makeup was somewhat tricky to focus on under intense direct sunlight, so many frames show me squinting softly or gazing toward the shimmering water. Chasing that effortless, laid-back summer mood, we dialed in our angles from 3:00 PM until golden hour when the sun neared the horizon. As the lighting shifted, the water's glint deepened, backlighting the blue strands with crystalline translucence.
We bypassed heavy filters to preserve the authentic warmth of the sun and genuine skin tones. Soaking in the pool for hours left my skin wrinkled, yet looking at the refreshing, dew-drenched vitality in the final shots made getting a tan completely worthwhile. Washing the wig and swimsuit afterward was quite a chore, but capturing such an ice-cool visual record made this summer unforgettable.
