This Angel Rem look was specially prepared for the Firefly Anime & Game Carnival. To give the character a distinct visual impact compared to her everyday design, I chose a pure white lace dress as the main piece, decorated with abundant ruffles and cutouts. The teardrop cutout on the chest and the white bow added rich layers of detail. For the arms, I used detached lace sleeves, which allowed easy movement without interrupting the garment's overall lines. The white halo overhead and the feathered wings on my back were custom-made props; keeping them stable throughout the convention required quite a bit of effort. The halo was anchored to the hair accessories via a slim rod, requiring careful angle adjustments to stay balanced. The wing straps were concealed beneath the dress to avoid visual disruption. The bright blue short hair, criss-cross hairpins, and blue contact lenses were all chosen to stay as faithful as possible to the character's visual identity.
The daylight at the convention was exceptionally bright, and we located a patch of green lawn outside as our shooting spot. The lush green grass formed a vivid color contrast against the pure white dress, making for striking photos. We experimented with a diverse range of poses during this session. For example, the forward-reaching motion in the second shot required the photographer to precisely capture eye contact, while leaning forward with extended arms proved to be a real test of core strength. In the third and fourth shots, touching the hair accessories on either side of my head called for controlled facial expressions to project a gentle, serene aura. The white fluffy bunny slippers on my feet not only enhanced the cuteness of the look but also provided comfort when navigating the grass, though walking on uneven lawn in plush slippers naturally required extra care.
For the makeup, I emphasized soft blush blending and tiered eye makeup, which, combined with the blue contacts, made her expression appear more vivid and lively. Transporting and managing the props was also a major undertaking for a convention trip. Because the wings and halo could easily get crushed during transit, I used a dedicated storage case for protection. Between takes, I constantly smoothed out dress folds and readjusted wing angles to ensure every frame looked its best. Although this ensemble appears airy and weightless, wearing it was far from easy, especially in the outdoor heat. However, seeing the photographer's convention photos—especially the interplay of light and shadow as sunlight filtered through the feathers onto the grass—made all the preparation and effort completely worthwhile.
On the convention floor, this all-white aesthetic naturally drew eyes in the crowd. Many passing photography enthusiasts and attendees stopped by to snap photos. To accommodate everyone, I rotated through various sitting poses and angles across the grass. At times, to catch that ideal ray of light, we readjusted postures in the exact same spot over and over. Outdoor shooting depends heavily on natural light, so we picked the late afternoon when the sunlight softened. Throughout the shoot, I collaborated with the photographer on composition ideas, utilizing background trees and stone pathways to create depth. The lightweight fabric meant that gentle breezes swayed the skirt and feathers, requiring patience to capture those fleeting motions. This shooting experience at the Firefly festival gave me deeper insights into prop crafting and outdoor photography, and I hope this fresh take on the angel theme brings everyone a delightful sense of novelty.
