Sitting next to the disco ball, feeling the cool white and purplish-red neon lights around me, this look for Lucy has finally achieved a relatively ideal presentation. I spent quite a bit of time just on the makeup and adjusting the shape of the wig. Especially to match the character's temperament, that strand of silvery-white short hair and the red details at the corners of the eyes required repeated adjustments. For the clothing material, I chose glossy black leather pieced together with a white outer coat, topped off with the iconic thigh-high boots, to fully piece together the visual hallmarks of a Cyberpunk edgerunner.

The floor of the shooting location this time was lined with reflective film, which greatly enhanced the reflection of ambient light, refracting those originally realistic neon tubes into dreamy, blurred blocks of color. To make the images more dynamic, a yellow rotating light trail was also introduced, leaving a flowing trajectory at the moment the shutter clicked. Honestly, controlling this kind of light-painting effect is quite difficult; getting the light ring to surround just the right position required syncing up with the photographer multiple times.

When shooting this type of cosplay work, a good costume alone is not enough; post-processing light and shadow reshaping, along with on-site environmental interaction, are often the keys to defining the atmosphere. Because the location was quite dim, it posed a test for the lens's focusing and exposure capabilities. However, it is precisely this complex light source that allows a Cyberpunk-style character to pop out of the flat dimension and take on a sense of reality. Not just the costumes and props, but the immersion of the environment is also a crucial element.

Sometimes I think that cosplay itself is a process of recreation—not just physical replication, but also the reproduction of visual emotions and character contexts. In this hallucinatory space of light and shadow, Anime-style photography is used to create an interesting fusion between the anime character and the real-world environment. If you are interested in the Cosplay makeup and styling or photography lighting for this kind of Cyberpunk and sci-fi elements, I can share more details and pitfalls I encountered during this shoot.
