[Cheshire Cosplay] Azur Lane Oath Wedding: Freezing Lightweight Moments at the Firefly Comic Con - Image 2

The turnaround speed for convention photos at the Firefly Comic Con is always highly guaranteed; this photoset was taken during the exhibition. This time, carrying a Sony a7c2 and a 35gm lens, the advantage of a prime large aperture is particularly obvious in the crowded exhibition hall—by compressing the background, the frame instantly becomes clean. This styling is one I like very much, coming from the Oath wedding dress of Cheshire from Azur Lane.

Let's first talk about the overall texture of this look; its greatest feature is its lightweight nature. The silver-gray short hair with that bright blue highlight at the tips matches this light blue gradient white tulle dress perfectly. The bowknot hair accessory with a cat-ear shape on top of my head is unexpectedly eye-catching, and paired with the transparent-textured long veil, the stacked sense of layering is exceptionally good. The chest features a lace-material lace-up design, plus a small bowknot at the neckline and pure white long gloves on both arms; the details are rich without looking tedious, making the overall appearance very clean, soft, and elegant. The shoes were also specifically paired with silver lace-up high heels, echoing the hair color and the color of the skirt hem edge as an integrated theme.

When shooting, capturing this lightweight feel actually relies heavily on the lighting. The 35mm focal length is highly practical in the exhibition hall; it can both capture the wide expansion of the skirt hem and prevent too much of the messy surrounding environment from squeezing into the frame. That posture of standing on one leg with arms wide open in the first photo is actually quite a test for the center of gravity; it requires not only swinging out the skirt hem but also maintaining body balance. Fortunately, the eye-tracking autofocus of this Sony mirrorless camera is extremely stable, keeping the eyes sharp and clear even in this dynamic pose. The moment of looking back and turning around in the second photo is my favorite blending point of motion and stillness in the entire photoset; the tulle long dress naturally scatters during the rotation, instantly bringing out that fluffy, cloud-like silhouette.

Shooting this kind of large skirt hem on-site at a comic con comes with many practical operational difficulties. First, it is easy to step on the trailing white tulle, requiring one to hold their breath while moving; second, with so many people, one has to find a slightly darker background to contrast the brightness of the light-colored clothing. However, the lighting environment cooperated very well this time; the point light source at the top formed an excellent embellishment against the dark background. After slightly brightening the cool tones, the gradient between ice blue and pure white appeared exceptionally translucent. The shallow depth of field brought by the Sony 35gm blurred the thin tulle at the edge of the dress very softly, without intentionally editing a surrealistic, magnificent look, making it closer to the authentic atmosphere of convention photos. The fabric of the costume is actually very thin, so the sense of wind when walking can be directly reflected. Anime characters need to find a suitable sense of gravity to be presented in the 3-dimensional world, and this wedding dress integrates drape and elegance beautifully. Although organizing the skirt hem was a lot of trouble, the final result was completely worth it.
