[Nekomata cosplay] Streetside Flaw Hunter of Zenless Zone Zero

A lot of effort went into the details of this Nekomata cosplay costume; the red-and-black paneled leather fabric really tested the tailoring. On the day of the shoot, I brought the photographer along to lock down this retro-style collector's room, aiming to create a dynamic clash between the character's street-smart vibe and this slightly gritty environment. Many people asked how that fluffy tail was secured: to ensure it drapes naturally in the frame without wobbling erratically, we installed a hidden internal support frame. This provided freedom of movement while preventing unpredictable tail shifts that would otherwise restrict poses to half-body shots.

I really liked all three poses from this shoot. The first and third were completed on a retro leather sofa—especially the semi-reclined seated pose in the third shot, where the photographer chose a very low angle. This angle truly tests leg lines, but the knee-high combat boots paired with the signature black-and-red palette perfectly elongated the lower body visually. While gently cupping my chin with both hands, the white tubular arm accessories coiled naturally on both sides, lending the posture a sense of power mixed with a subtle, playful languor. The standing pose in the second shot was completely unrestrained—wielding the long-handled prop with an intense gaze piercing through the lens, delivering an exceptional feeling of control.

The makeup and hairstyle were also the soul of this set. To fit the character's playful yet sharp persona, we extended the eyeliner slightly outward to accentuate the sharpness of her gaze while keeping an energetic overall feel. The frontal bangs and tied buns, paired with the fluffy white animal ears cosplay props, neatly captured the character's seemingly casual yet alert demeanor.

In terms of lighting, rather than using harsh, bright white studio lights, we relied heavily on the venue's existing warm ambient lighting. A cool-blue accent light on the left served as fill light; this interplay of warm and cool tones hitting the leather combat suit brought out a striking reflective texture. Combined with backgrounds filled with retro game cartridges, weathered metal racks, and aged wooden shelves, every frame of this anime-style photography feels like a snapshot telling an everyday street story, maxing out the visual texture.

To be honest, wearing this full character outfit has some real weight to it, especially when shifting between multiple poses repeatedly. But seeing those vivid moments in the final shots—particularly when that red hairpin with the geometric diamond motif lands right in the center of the frame—made every bit of effort worth it. Cosplaying a character with such a defined style requires capturing her momentary expressions: appearing as composed as a cat watching its prey, yet primed with lightning-fast combat reflexes. Reviewing the raw shots alongside the lighting and color grading, I feel the set's overall tone perfectly blended agility and danger into a single character.

Whether it's the leather shorts or the dramatically oversized sleeves, they deliver a strong visual punch. The tension in the frame truly shines when paired with dynamic posing. I'm thrilled to take on this look from Zenless Zone Zero, bringing that familiar in-game figure to life through real-world photography. Every cosplay journey is a process of turning 2D expectations into reality, and being able to personally participate in this creative endeavor is a truly passionate experience.
