[Astra Yao cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Outdoor Cosplay Log: Feasting to Recharge After Wrapping Up

Shooting outdoors until dark, the last bit of energy before changing into casual clothes was entirely dedicated to this sumptuous, hot dinner. Today’s schedule started early in the morning. To faithfully recreate Astra Yao from Zenless Zone Zero, the makeup and styling process was definitely a meticulous craft.

First, regarding facial makeup, to match the character's traits, I chose transparent purplish-pink colored contact lenses, which served as the key highlight illuminating the entire expression. To complement them, the eye makeup featured an earth-tone base and upward-winged black eyeliner, with warm reddish blush generously dusted under the eyes, topped off by that signature beauty mark beneath the eye to outline a cool yet subtly mysterious aura. When styling the wig, I couldn't afford any carelessness either; for this black hairstyle with thick blunt bangs, hairspray and clips were essential to secure the headband in place, otherwise a single gust of outdoor wind could completely ruin the style.

The costume details are equally significant. This white high-neck sleeveless top is adorned with a full ring of pearls around the neckline, and its crisp collar structure perfectly accents the neck's contours. The black-and-white striped bow on the chest is a prime visual focal point, where the golden star buckle inlaid with three-dimensional small pearls looks gorgeous without being overly busy. The black leather corset on the lower torso features golden star motifs, cinching the waist while introducing layered techwear accents to this anime-style fashion.

The outdoor photoshoot process is often quite spontaneous. Today's first scene was set in a brightly lit beverage shop with a yellow background wall; the warm indoor lighting gave the photos an innate vibrancy. Later, we relocated inside a car to experiment with another style. Because of the compact cabin space, natural light filtering through the car window became exceptionally soft, which suited casual, serene half-body close-ups. Different lighting environments endow the character with completely distinct atmospheres.

However, shooting is genuinely energy-consuming. Maintaining facial expressions and controlled postures over long periods, coupled with constantly walking around to scout framing, left my stomach rumbling by afternoon. As soon as we wrapped up at dusk, I rushed straight to the food court to recharge. Though not a lavish feast, this post-shoot meal hit the spot: a bowl of sesame-topped rice, a golden, crispy fried pork cutlet drizzled with teriyaki sauce, paired with kimchi, a fresh salad, and two kimbap rolls—carbs, protein, and vitamins all covered. After a full day of shooting, such simple and comforting food instantly restored my energy and melted the fatigue away.

Of course, when it comes to selecting photos, everyone inevitably runs into that eternal dilemma: which side of the face looks better on camera? Honestly, human facial bone structures naturally have left-right asymmetries, and with single-direction lighting during shoots, the left profile often looks sharply contoured while the right profile appears softer. When reviewing shots, I frequently swiped back and forth across my phone gallery comparing them; whenever I liked one composition, the lighting in another seemed even better. Today, I finally made peace with it: there’s no need to pick a winner. As long as the emotion and vibe are on point, both the left and right profiles have their own unique beauty.

Stepping into real-world settings dressed in full gear always feels wonderfully immersive. This cross-dimensional experience transforms Astra Yao from a flat screen character into someone with a vivid, everyday presence. Today’s photos encompass both cool stylized portraits and candid dining snapshots, presenting a more multidimensional character through diverse perspectives.

Today's shoot has come to an end. While physically tired, this day's practice gave me a fresh understanding of how this makeup and styling perform on camera. In particular, adjusting the wig and bow tie details and maintaining optimal hue and texture under various lighting conditions are invaluable insights gained only on-site. Compared to studio work, outdoor cosplay in authentic settings like urban streets and food halls blends seamlessly with the character's casual side, making it easier to convey a relaxed and spontaneous vibe.

All in all, today was an immensely fulfilling casual cosplay journey. Dedicating myself to what I love while savoring the city's lively ambiance, crowned with a delicious dinner—this is what makes cosplay so captivating: embarking on a little adventure distinct from routine daily life.
