[Melanie Cosplay] The Moment Lifting the Trophy: Vintage Detective Vibe from Reverse: 1999

This Melanie cosplay outfit actually involved a lot of thought in styling. To recreate that retro yet modern feel, I specifically chose a taupe checkered newsboy cap paired with that iconic long blonde curly wig—the curls needed to be styled manually, and I used a lot of pomade and hairspray to keep that fluffy, slightly lazy wave. Black-rimmed cat-eye glasses are the soul of this Glasses girl styling, appearing smart yet playfully quirky.

For the jacket, I picked this brown faux leather jacket; its shoulder lines and metallic zip shine nicely under red and blue ambient lights, layered with a white zip-up hoodie and a dark red turtleneck base shirt, creating instant depth. The hardest part of this outfit is capturing that sense of ease, as the character herself has an effortless composure, so I didn't need to force stiff poses during the shoot. In the first two photos holding the trophy, that trophy was a specially found vintage prop. Golden reflections hit the side of my face, combining with the red light source to give the image great visual tension.

However, I am personally most satisfied with Photo 2, which not only fully displays the upper body outfit but also subtly exposes red stockings and leg lines. The red stockings actually form a great contrast with the brown jacket—striking and enhancing the overall look's completeness.

Photos 3 and 4 are close-up facial shots where red light floods the frame, making the wig hair strands semi-transparent and dreamlike. Photo 5 is a mirror selfie, more realistic, capturing everyday status, though the green phone case adds a nice slice-of-life feel. Photo 6 switches to another scheme with a glossy black leather jacket and bright red gloves, sunglasses resting atop my head—trying out a fan-art mix in a Vintage leather jacket outfit while maintaining the retro detective core.

I prepared for a long time for this cosplay, trying to match every accessory to the period feel of the original setting, from wig trimming to leather jacket cut and glasses frame selection. The red-lit environment was set up by myself using a fill light and red color gel to create this dreamy, vintage atmosphere. The key in cosplay photography is capturing the character's spirit, not just clothing fidelity, so I intentionally mimicked that lazy yet shrewd, relaxed yet professional gaze.
