This New Year-themed photoshoot's preparation and execution aligned perfectly with the festive atmosphere. I had always wanted to try a shoot inside a traditional Chinese architectural garden, selecting a scene featuring classic vermilion pillars paired with blue-green carved railings. This classic red-and-green color contrast not only carries a rich sense of Eastern aesthetics, but also highlights the soft, graceful texture of the costume.

Let's start with the styling for this Sotheby cosplay. To match the New Year theme, the costume utilized a modified Hanfu cosplay design dominated by white and pink hues. The fabric held a subtle sheen, with skirt folds draping smoothly when walking. Exquisite embroidery details adorned the outfit, while metal ring buckles and tassels served as chest connections, presenting a layered detail that balances softness with structural strength. The wig was styled into light blonde twin hair buns, fitted with pink bows and long red ribbons at the knots. When blown by a light breeze or during larger movements, the ribbons created a flowing sense of motion, adding visual tension. Although the wig carried significant weight, the stylist handled it meticulously, hiding the base well at the roots to keep the look voluminous and natural.

We prepared plenty of props for this Chinese-style photography session, including a round silk fan and a New Year scroll. In the fourth photo, I held up a red scroll inscribed with gold characters reading 'May All Wishes Come True'. This scroll brightened the scene on site, accentuating the New Year blessing theme while echoing the wooden doors, windows, and red pillars behind. The round fan created a softer visual texture; its semi-transparent tulle material helped diffuse sunlight slightly in front of the lens or served as a foreground element, offering smoother light transitions across my face.

I must mention the photographer's dedication. The shoot spanned from daytime to dusk, capturing that special 'blue hour.' Especially in the third sitting photo, the background featured traditional blue-green glazed tile roofs while modern city skyscrapers were subtly visible along the distant skyline—this temporal contrast between ancient and modern felt deeply intriguing. The photographer was meticulous with lighting; to highlight skin translucency, artificial front fill lighting was used, giving my skin a clean, luminous texture while rendering facial features more three-dimensional. Meanwhile, dark background areas retained abundant detail, preserving the silhouettes of rocks by the water and distant trees.

Shooting was actually a bit hectic, as vermilion pillars reflect light easily, leading to overexposure risks without careful attention. However, the photographer adjusted angles and lighting positions promptly, yielding results I'm extremely satisfied with. Strolling by garden waters and leaning against railings while watching my reflection merge with the water made it easy to immerse myself in the character. This large-sleeved Hanfu outfit heavily tested physical coordination, especially hand gestures. Holding the scroll required balancing force between arms and fingers to look relaxed without stiffness. Fortunately, most actions looked natural in the final photos.

Overall, this location shoot offered a fantastic experience; rockeries, ponds, and carved doors served as exquisite framing. Whether peeking toward the camera beside red pillars or gently waving a fan inside a pavilion, every spot exuded unique Chinese charm. Massive thanks to photographer WiFi for precise composition and capture, allowing me to showcase this look confidently. Starting the New Year with photos filled with traditional warmth and blessings feels truly heart-warming. I hope everyone seeing this set feels the peace and harmony conveyed in the images.
