For this Neon Genesis Evangelion Asuka Cosplay shoot in a Gothic style, I personally planned everything from the set design and styling to the post-processing retouching. Partnering with Dan Dan for this shoot, the overall styling was grounded in black-and-white Gothic style elements, incorporating cross motifs and red ribbon lace-up details that delivered strong visual impact. The white high-collar top features red round buttons and diamond patterns on the shoulders, which harmonized beautifully with the inner black-and-white striped corset and red ribbons. To enhance that cool, alluring, and mysterious delicacy of the character, the makeup utilized large-diameter blue contact lenses and prominent blush, which, paired with Dan Dan's classic baby face, made her look completely like a porcelain doll.

To recreate the vintage theme of the gothic calendar, I specifically arranged a vinyl record wall, a vintage telephone, champagne, and LOEWE magazines as the backdrop, with the light and shadow effects filtering through window blinds enhancing the outfit. The most eye-catching part of the lower half was the Black and white striped stockings over the knees, so during composition I focused heavily on high-angle overhead shots—like in the fifth photo, which perfectly showed off the length of the legs and the striped line texture while highlighting the dimensional design of the chest and the flowing skirt hem.

During the shoot, because the skirt was rather heavy, combined with the weight of the black gloves and boots, she took several breaks but still persisted in holding the best poses. In post-processing, I mainly fine-tuned skin tones and color contrast, strengthening the contrast among red, black, and white to bring the visual texture closer to the original setting's chilly ambiance. As for the hair, the wig was tied into twintails paired with black bows, secured very firmly without losing shape throughout the entire shoot.

This shoot also gave me fresh inspiration: pairing vintage Gothic style with Black and white striped stockings can truly create a powerful aesthetic. Great Cosplay photography always relies on patient models and meticulous observation—such as capturing the stripes on the garment and the drape of the red ribbons from various angles to faithfully honor the original design intent. This is one of my most satisfying works from this shoot, and I hope it offers helpful reference and insights to enthusiasts who also love this style.
