Bringing this Ambience Synesthesia-themed Shu from Arknights to life took about half a month from preparation to final photos. The character inherently embodies a gentle yet detached disposition; to recreate that atmosphere within 2D still photography, considerable dedication went into makeup and styling during pre-production. The wig was custom-selected with blended gradient coloring—a pale gold base woven with highly saturated bright blue highlights, creating striking depth under strong lighting. The dragon horn props on top were handcrafted through mold casting with embedded magnetic bases, ensuring they wouldn't easily dislodge while reclining or executing large movements. The base makeup emphasized a matte, translucent finish, with eye makeup broadly blended in reddish-pink hues, paired with blue contact lenses and pointed elf ears to approach that fantasy aura. The orange and blue totems drawn across my arms were created combining scar wax and body paints; scrubbing them off after the shoot left my hands bright red.

Regarding the wardrobe, this white wide-sleeved gown carried substantial weight. The outer sheer gauze features intricate jacquard textures and silver embroidery; to preserve an airy, floating feel, I layered a stiffened lining beneath to support its silhouette. The woven waist ornaments paired with golden neckpieces, pearl necklaces, and that teal pendant enriched the details immensely.

The set design was infused with Oriental fantasy charm: expansive pink cherry blossom canopies matched with carved wooden daybeds, sheer draperies, and nuanced lighting instantly elevated the atmosphere. For the first set of photos, I adopted a reclining posture on the daybed—bare feet accented by translucent white gauze—seeking to convey a languid, uninhibited vibe. This pose was actually quite uncomfortable, relying on arm strength to bear my weight while keeping the upper body elongated and fingers graceful, which kept my shoulders under constant tension. The second set featured kneeling on the couch with open arms, an ideal movement for showcasing the wide sleeves, though it required managing the pull of the long skirt hem.

For lighting, a warm softbox served as the key light to lend translucent warmth to skin tones, while cool rim lights delineated contours from the side, granting crisp dimension to the white robes and blonde hair. In post-processing, subtle softening was applied while preserving skin texture, grading with a warm-cool balance to heighten mystery. On prop details, a white porcelain wine flagon and cups were placed nearby to add a touch of lived-in realism.

Cosplay is never just about wearing garments for a few photos; it means immersing oneself into the character's internal logic. The Ambience Synesthesia motif naturally carries stage and festival undertones, so before the lens, I continuously visualized her state within this setting, expressing quiet grace and composure. To complement the depth of the space, the photographer tested various angles—from high-angle overviews to low-angle upward perspectives—to maximize garment layers and scene grandeur. Bringing my interpretation to visual fruition was exhausting, but every bit worthwhile.
