[Ptilopsis Cosplay] Arknights "Touching the Clouds": Grassland & Red Moon Night Outdoor Shoot

The final photos for this Ptilopsis cosplay in her "Touching the Clouds" skin from Arknights have finally been compiled! The shoot took place last week on July 12th at AfooAgoo Cafe in Beijiao. Wanting to break away from the conventional indoor setting of a café, we specifically chose the outdoor grass and night environment to showcase the ethereal and lightweight quality of this white chiffon outfit.

The situation on the day of the shoot was actually quite chaotic; the biggest disappointment was that the pigeons at the venue, which we originally planned to interact with, completely refused to cooperate. While saying "the venue pigeons wouldn't listen" carries a bit of helplessness, it unexpectedly turned the entire shoot into a pure dialogue between nature and portraiture. Fortunately, the lush reed grass outdoors swayed in the night breeze, working with the night speedlight to darken the ambient background, establishing a cool, serene tone for this set.

The costume for this look is "Touching the Clouds", featuring highly translucent materials. Generous amounts of semi-transparent white tulle combined with an off-the-shoulder design create a hazy texture under the dark night. The blue-striped choker, orange-red tassels, and metal bells around the neck serve as visual focal points for the entire outfit. Coupled with the iconic black-and-white wing headpiece and the white silk round fan in hand, the character's signature healing yet aloof aura is beautifully blended together.

I especially want to talk about the lighting and props on site. Beyond the handheld round fan, the core prop was that giant orange glowing moon. In the first few final shots, photographer NightDiva used an external speedlight on a Nikon camera to illuminate the subject while darkening the background; my silver-white wig and outfit texture appeared exceptionally pure against the solid black backdrop. Meanwhile, the last two shots featuring the red moon utilized its warm ambient light to cast a soft warm-and-cool contrast across my silver hair and white tulle, creating compelling visual tension. For this kind of high-contrast Cosplay photography on a Night outdoor shoot, controlling light distance and flash output is crucial—a moment's oversight can blow out highlight details—but fortunately, our synergy was spot on.

Since it was a night outdoor shoot, bugs and falling temperatures were real challenges. To keep my makeup clean and flawless, I specifically used long-wear foundation and setting spray, while selecting orange-yellow eyeshadow tones for the eyes to echo the character's headpiece palette. During the shoot, to capture the most natural body movement, I had to constantly adjust my standing positions in the tall grass while carefully preventing the white dress from snagging on stray leaves or getting mud on the hem. Balancing natural pose expression with costume care is truly part of the joy in cosplay.

Finally, a huge thank you to the photographer for their patience. Even though the pigeons "went on strike," they flexibly adapted the shooting plan to capture many of my subtle expressions. When cosplaying an ethereal character, utilizing hand gestures and the round fan to create a sense of airy motion in the garments is key. Rather than standing stiffly, letting the skirt flutter gently with movement or leveraging perspective for visual extension makes the scene much more dynamic. Overall, despite tiny imperfections, the final shots from this "Touching the Clouds" night shoot yielded an experience beyond expectations, perfectly preserving both visual purity and the character's unique healing temperament.
