For this shoot, I explored a red-and-black cheongsam styling for Shenhe, creating an intense visual impact. The wardrobe is crafted from rich red satin paneled with black lace, accented by traditional frog closures and delicate white floral embellishments on the chest, while the black lace frills along the cuffs and hemline introduce dimensional layering. To honor this concept, styling the wig took considerable effort: the silver-white long straight hair was braided along the side to add full-bodied volume, and the bangs were carefully trimmed to frame the facial contours seamlessly.
For makeup, to accentuate the character's aloof, ethereal aura, reddish tones were blended around the eyes alongside vivid blue contacts, producing a striking facial color contrast. An eye-catching red feather hairpiece was chosen to echo the outfit. The set design featured Japanese-style wooden lattice screens and solid wood shelving in the background, with draped red tulle and satin sweeping across the floor, which harmonized with reddish-purple ambient lighting to craft an enigmatic, opulent visual mood.
In pose choreography, taking advantage of the Stockings and strappy high heels, I explored various display angles. A seated pose on the chair with one leg raised beautifully flatters leg contours and the delicate lace details of the over-the-knee black Stockings, while showcasing the premium texture of the red-and-black stilettos. Kneeling on the crimson tulle holding a talisman prop shifted focus toward the character's serene, composed side. Holding a white feather and blue cards as interactive props also ensured the compositions stayed dynamic.
Given the high-contrast red and black palette, skin rendering demanded extra care. Ample fill lighting was used on set to preserve skin luminosity, preventing the intense red ambient glow from muddying natural skin tones. The black lace gloves required frequent adjustments between takes to ensure a snug fit, sculpting sleek arm lines on camera. While continually fine-tuning garments and postures required patience, seeing the finished results made it entirely worthwhile. I hope this red-and-black Shenhe brings everyone a fresh visual perspective—the 'Auntie' meme is always delightful, so feel free to share any new ideas with me!
