Today, I am sharing this Azur Lane Zhen Hai cosplay finished photoset with everyone. It took about half a month from preparation to the final photos because the details of this costume genuinely required painstaking refinement. First, regarding the costume, it is a black modified Qipao, utilizing a generous amount of sequins and lace patchworks on the chest and waist area. To achieve better reflective effects in front of the lens, I intentionally selected fabric with a subtle shimmering texture during material sourcing. The high collar design is paired with a neck ornament composed of metal and gemstones, retaining Chinese elements while enhancing the character's gorgeous flair. Since the overall scheme is black, I paired it with black long gloves and semi-sheer black Stockings, which not only unifies the color scheme visually but also elongates the lines of the legs and arms.
The makeup was designed by myself. Since the character's eyes in the original art and settings are red, I chose red pupils with relatively high color saturation, using red-brown eyeshadow to blend a large area around the eye contour with the outer corners slightly upturned, making the captured gaze look much fiercer. The lip color was chosen as a pale pinkish tone to neutralize the heavy feel of the eye makeup. As for the hairstyle, blunt bangs paired with low hair buns on both sides create a contradictory sense where docility and danger coexist; I also matched the hair buns with black floral hair accessories to echo the color of the costume. To complete this styling, I specifically found a pair of black long leather gloves, where the texture collision between the gloves and the costume adds a layer of depth to the outfit.
The shooting process was actually more tiring than expected. Because it was a seated pose, to highlight the visual effect of long legs, I needed to keep my core engaged the entire time, and the overlapping angles of the legs were adjusted numerous times. The black lace folding fan in my hand served as an exceptional prop, not only enriching the frame but also hiding half my face to boost the sense of mystery whenever I was unsure what expression to strike. The on-site lighting leaned towards a cool white tone, which wonderfully highlighted the high-end feel brought by the black-and-gold color palette. I purposefully chose a pure white background so that the silhouettes of the subject and costume would remain exceptionally sharp, preventing any messy elements from stealing the visual focus.
During the shoot, I continuously searched for that lazy yet ready-to-counterattack mature woman aura. Although I rarely try this dark style in daily life, this immersive experience gave me a deeper understanding of the character. This outfit is certainly unrealistic for daily wear, but as a cosplay photoshoot, it undoubtedly delivers an overwhelmingly strong visual impact. When posing, I discovered that gaze coordination is particularly crucial; slightly narrowing the eyes or raising the chin just a bit nails that傲娇 (tsundere) temperament firmly, and these are all experiences figured out through trial and error. To perfectly present the character's temperament this time, not only did the costumes and props need to be on point, but the photographer's lens language and lighting also cooperated with remarkable tacit understanding. Seeing the clear texture of the Stockings and the fan details in the final finished photos gave me a massive sense of accomplishment, making all the late-night styling efforts totally worth it. That concludes this shooting record.
