[Wcos] Arknights — Street Vibes with Patent Leather and High-Heeled Over-the-Knee Boots

For this shoot, I chose this look featuring patent leather elements that I personally adore. In the world of Arknights, the character W inherently carries an unruly and dangerous aura. However, standing on the rooftop in this getup, I focused more on how to present the texture of the outfit itself through light, shadow, and body language.

Though the photos look effortless, the material of this costume is actually quite special. The large expanse of black glossy material not only has an extremely high reflectivity, but also easily catches dust. To maintain this gloss, we wiped it down several times before shooting, ensuring every zipper and metal buckle captured by the lens reflected the sharpest gleam. The red inner lining and headpiece create a strong color collision with the dominant black, which was also the visual center I wanted to emphasize during photo post-processing. I deliberately bumped up the red saturation slightly to break away from the heaviness of pure black.

The lighting on the shoot day was quite harsh, with a pure, cloudless blue sky. While such natural light lets the patent leather material show off its optimal state, it also meant highlights could easily blow out, or shadow areas could turn pitch black. So when adjusting my poses, I tried to angle my body sideways as much as possible, allowing the strong light on one side to smoothly glide along the lines of my shoulders and legs, while using the building's architectural structure on the other side to create contrast.

Speaking of the part of the look that satisfied me most, besides the high-collar design flattering the neckline, it definitely has to be this pair of high-heeled over-the-knee boots. Visually, they greatly elongate the leg proportions. Paired with the black miniskirt and semi-sheer stockings, they strike a balance between cold detachment and feminine silhouette. I remember holding a single-leg support pose for quite a long time to control my center of gravity—because even though the boots have high heels, the patent leather soles offer limited friction, so shooting often required simultaneous force from both ankles and knees. Many friends might think such close-ups or full-body shots are hard to pull off, but finding that slight muscle tension to maintain power makes the image look very strong.

The choice of perspective was also quite special. The photographer used an extremely low upward angle. This composition makes the entire figure look more slender and bold, while the dramatic tilted framing gives off a dynamic sense of being ready to charge forward at any second. That's also why I look relatively cool and confident in the photos, as this low-angle shot really tests one's jawline and facial expression management—looking down or letting the gaze wander makes you look flustered. So I was constantly checking in with the photographer throughout the shoot to ensure the emotion in my eyes stayed in sync with the camera's rhythm.

This kind of cyberpunk or wasteland-style outfit heavily relies on accessories and materials complementing each other. The red hair accessory on the hat, the leather straps at the waist, including the long gloves on my hands—not a single detail could be missing. Missing even one would significantly compromise the overall aura. I personally love character designs that blend toughness with a touch of sexiness, as it allows me to experiment with different dimensions of emotional expression during shooting.

Regarding the aftermath of this shoot, we didn't do overly exaggerated editing in post-processing; we mostly restored the color temperature of the blue sky and sunlight from the shoot day, maintaining a clear, translucent visual effect. I hope friends who see this set can feel the impact brought by this color combination. For anyone wanting to try cosplay outfits made of patent leather or glossy PVC materials, here's a small tip: definitely pay attention to reflection issues during shooting. If reflections are too strong, it can easily turn into a giant reflector, obscuring the original structural details of the costume.
