[Makise Kurisu Cosplay] The Crimson Silhouette Hidden in the Retro Laboratory

The full-set photos for this Makise Kurisu cosplay were shot in an environment full of retro industrial feel and old electronic equipment. The baseline for the overall atmosphere was already determined before shooting—to showcase the wisdom and isolation inherent to the character amidst slightly oppressive and dim lighting. A white shirt, red tie, and khaki jacket form a classic combination of items, completed with a black tights outfit and short boots for the lower body.

Regarding the setting, this room packed with old-fashioned oscilloscopes, signal generators, and various equipment cabinets with dashboards provided an excellent foundation for set design. The use of venetian blinds was the core of this light and shadow design; the stripe-like light and shadow cutting in the first image creates a subtle interaction between the character and the cold equipment. In the second image sitting on the ground, to showcase an unconstrained "otaku" attribute and a state of being immersed in research, numerous research papers and drafts covered in formulas were deliberately scattered on the floor, alongside several randomly placed pens, making people feel as if she had just been writing furiously in this corner.

Collaborating with Xiao En was incredibly smooth; she could always find that natural sense of movement. For instance, the standing gesture with crossed arms in the third image appears defensive but actually expresses more of the character's cautious attitude when facing complex theories; the fourth image attempted a highly dramatic bird's-eye perspective, with the whole body leaning against the chair and toes stretched straight. This unconventional composition poses high demands on lens language, but fortunately, the final effect is highly eye-catching, with the black short boots and legs forming a beautiful extension under the light and shadow.

A lot of work also went into the costume, makeup, and styling details. For the wig, straight red hair was used, strongly emphasizing the smoothness of the strands, but to avoid stiffness, slight adjustments were intentionally made to the bangs. The makeup took a translucent route, focusing on the depth of the eyes to convey that slightly cold gaze of a researcher. The collar of the white shirt was left slightly open, which both echoes the character's own casualness and retains the freedom of a student uniform.

This laboratory seems to bring its own magical magnetic field; those wires and knobs appear disorganized yet constitute the core spiritual world of the character. During the shoot, I would frequently touch those knobs casually or tap on the keyboard in a lifelike manner—this is a small technique to break the static frame. Although the equipment consists of truly old devices, and some screws are even rusted, this instead adds another layer of narrative depth to the entire frame. The color processing of this set leans toward cold tones with a vintage film feel, making those green waveforms and red indicator lights stand out even more.

Overall, although this shoot consists of static images, I hope that through the layout of these instruments, the cutting of light and shadow, and the details in the movements, people can feel the underlying personality color of being seemingly aloof yet actually focused. Finally, the photo set is archived, and I hope these images captured via atmospheric photography filled with a retro mad-scientist aura can perfectly fit the character's own temperament.
