[Yao cosplay] Honor of Kings: Forest Light & Shadow Cosplay Photoshoot of the Yunmeng Marsh Fawn

When shooting this Forest style cosplay photoshoot for Yao's original skin, to recreate the agility of the Yunmeng Marsh fawn, we specially chose a dense wild forest where streams converge for the location. Although the moss-covered rocks and flowing water increased the difficulty of the shoot, the final natural light, shadow, and ecological atmosphere were indeed much more vivid than a solid color background in a studio.
During the preparation phase, the hairstyle and headwear required extra care. The pink double braids needed a high sense of natural hair texture to look realistic, so I specifically used a gradient wig for braiding. To fit the sweet setting in the images, the plush animal ears and delicate fawn antlers on my head were specially adjusted in angle to ensure they wouldn't shift during multi-angle candid shots outdoors. For the costume, I chose a lightweight combination mainly consisting of white, brown, and khaki. The outer white cloak not only adds a flowing, dynamic movement when moving but also contrasts sharply with the dark shoulder armor and straps. The brown mid-calf high-heeled boots required immense balance on the rocks by the stream. Every time I adjusted my posture, water splashing onto the boots actually added a sense of storytelling to the scene.
Props and post-processing were the soul of this shoot. To pursue texture during early production, the weapon in my hand with blue glowing vines was specially painted on reflective fabric. The blue birds and butterflies swimming in the air were visual special effects we completed through a combined effort before and after the shoot. Under backlighting, the sunbeams piercing through the leaves cast dappled light on me. Combined with these blue glowing elements, it truly maxed out the 'forest elf' vibe, elevating this to the level of true Atmospheric photography. When composing the shots, I tried as many different movements as possible, such as looking back from behind a tree, lying on a rock to feel the sunlight, or naturally letting the skirt and cloak fly while spinning, like in the last picture. This combination of dynamic and static expression better reflects the character's playfulness and agility.
Honestly, completing such a Cosplay photoshoot is really not an easy task, especially maintaining makeup and hair without getting oily in an outdoor environment, preventing the costume from being torn by branches, and constantly watching out for slips underfoot. But every time I see the final photos, where the sunlight falls on my hair like crushed gold, or the moment when the water splash effects and blue birds interweave perfectly, I feel all the hard work has transformed into the character's vitality. This immersive shoot has given me a deeper understanding of the character.
