The character concept of Sandrone the Marionette from Genshin Impact carries a unique blend of mechanical rigidity and girlish innocence; bringing this look to life in the studio took a lot of careful thought. For the costume, a main colorblock of deep navy and white was paired with a red collar and gold edge trim, giving the overall look a touch of understated elegance and grandeur. To recreate the layered cascading effect of the skirt, I adjusted the internal petticoat structure numerous times until the natural drape of the outer ruffles matched my vision.
What I loved most about this shoot was the giant illuminated circular disc in the background, which the lighting technician cleverly styled to evoke a full moon effect for a captivating Moonlight atmosphere. While direct strong lighting on set tested my facial expression control, the rim lighting created by the backlight enveloped the edges of the fabric threads and hair strands in a soft halo, dialing the atmosphere up completely. To prevent the character from looking too isolated in the frame, the little white rabbit plush in my arms became the crucial visual anchor. Although the original lore might not feature such a soft prop for the character, incorporating this white rabbit softened her aloof distance, allowing me to relax more naturally in front of the lens.
For the leg styling, I selected pure white stockings for this White thigh-highs outfit. Both in texture and color, they echoed the white apron section of the upper bodice nicely while standing out clearly against the cool-toned backdrop. Considering standing stability during the shoot, I temporarily slipped off the right high heel. What began as a casual moment to rest my feet was praised by the photographer for adding a strong narrative feel. It felt as though the character had momentarily let down her guard on a tranquil night, or casually slipped off her shoe while absorbed in playing with her rabbit. This semi-relaxed posture, combined with the subtle reflections of the stockings and shoe on the polished floor, added a touch of vivid human warmth over a rigid pose.
In terms of lighting choices, the frontal soft fill light was crucial. If the contrast ratio was too extreme, the gold trims and red bowtie on the dress would either blow out or turn into crushed shadows. We fine-tuned the softbox angles repeatedly on set to balance warm and cool tones—preserving the cool, dreamlike vibe of the glowing moon disc while keeping my complexion natural and translucent, ensuring my makeup and lip color weren't washed out by the ambient lighting. The shooting process tested our patience: the floor featured a rippled metallic texture where even a slight tilt would distort the perspective in strange ways. I had to maintain solid core balance while stretching my leg lines naturally within the confined space.
Overall, while this Anime cosplay look isn't overly complicated, the physical expressiveness required was far more delicate than expected. Unlike warrior characters who rely on fierce expressions to project power, Sandrone Marionette cosplay relies more on subtle gazes and gentle hand placements on props to convey personality. Completing this shoot in a moonlight scene was my personal visual distillation of elements from her lore in Genshin Impact. Although the downtime for wardrobe changes and lighting adjustments on set was lengthy, seeing these cool, crystalline frames frozen in time made every bit of effort worthwhile. I hope the Moonlight atmosphere in these photos conveys that quiet, exquisite elegance I set out to express.
