[Ganyu Cosplay] Qipao Ganyu: Convention Photos Log

This fan-designed Qipao look for Ganyu has been in the works since early this year. Having always adored Ganyu's blend of serene coolness and tender warmth in Genshin Impact, I decided to present an alternative derivative styling for the convention. The overall garment design retains the iconic mandarin collar and frog closures of the traditional Qipao, accented with a teardrop cutout along the neckline. The fabric is a light blue base with a delicate pearlescent sheen, printed with ink-wash waves and cloud patterns that shift lustrously with every step. Golden tassels and elongated streamers adorn the side slit; to ensure dynamic fluid motion, I coordinated with my tailor multiple times to recalibrate the waist cinching and slit height, balancing ease of movement with the Qipao's signature tailored curves.

For the wig, I began with a base light blue long wavy unit, using a curling iron to sculpt deeper definition into the curls, while setting the iconic ahoge cowlick on the crown with styling gel. The most challenging elements were the pair of black horn accessories on either side of my head. Given their substantial volume, I reinforced the interior with a rigid skeleton armature and layered bobby pins through the wig cap to ensure they stayed rock-solid through a full day of convention activity. Cosmetically, I wore violet-red contact lenses to reflect the character's eye color, applying soft pink-violet gradients with micro-glitter across the lids, paired with featherlight under-eye blush for a translucent, natural complexion. My arms were styled with deep navy opera gloves trimmed in golden chains and white borders, which framed my arms beautifully while echoing the blue-and-white color palette.

The shooting took place in an expansive exhibition convention center defined by industrial grey metal trusses and soaring ceilings, beneath arrays of high-bay lamps casting a sharp, cool-toned ambient wash. We brought a black folding step ladder as an on-site prop to leverage vertical elevation and enrich compositional depth. For the lower body, I paired black shorts with sheer black Stockings and beige crisscross thigh straps, merging 2D character motifs with modern styling to enrich visual detail along the legs. To accompany the look, I wore white platform block heels, providing height elongation without causing unbearable fatigue while walking across convention floors.

During shooting, to make the Qipao's hemline and streamers billow organically, I repeatedly balanced on one foot and perched atop the ladder, posing with a pale blue round fan to strike equilibrium between poise and kinetic grace. Without natural daylight, we relied heavily on portable fill lights to carve out edge contours, giving the white garment embroidery and sheer black Stockings dimensional pop. At times I sat cross-legged on the ladder, and at other times I reclined across white floor sheets, using the grey flooring as a broad reflector bounce. Every shutter actuation felt like total immersion into character. These convention photos not only record the day's styling, but also synthesize months of preparation. I hope these images convey the distinctive charm of this derivative design.
