[Nilou Cosplay] Hydro Dancer from Genshin Impact, Live Photos from Shenzhen Animation and Gaming Carnival

This time at the Shenzhen Animation and Gaming Carnival, I cosplayed Nilou from Genshin Impact. The most laborious parts of the overall look were the headpiece and the long red hair. The headpiece's black horns with gold patterns were actually lighter than they looked, but to keep them secure, I used several clips and hairspray. Coupled with the long white veil, it was easily blown sideways by the wind while walking, though fortunately, everything went smoothly during the shoot. The outfit featured a blue, white, and gold color scheme; the cropped midriff top nicely accented the waistline, and the sleeves were very wide, especially the gold bracers which had a rich texture, giving a strong flowing sensation when moving. For makeup, I specifically chose bright blue contact lenses paired with cool-toned eyeshadow to give my gaze the ethereal quality of an exotic dancer (red hair, blue eyes).

The shooting location was near the main aisle of the convention, where the background was somewhat cluttered, but the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the crowds. With the addition of blue halo effects in post-processing, the ambiance instantly came together. The first pose of reaching out to grab the light effect was actually shot multiple times because it was a dynamic candid snapshot requiring control over arm extension and hair flutter angles. The red hair created a striking contrast against the blue halo, and I personally loved that light yet forceful effect. The hand gesture in the second photo was improvised; the pinky finger in the orchid gesture was curled up quite stubbornly, which made me laugh looking at the photos, though it didn't feel out of place for this character.

It was very crowded on the day of the convention, making walking in an outfit with long flowing veils quite tricky, but meeting so many fellow enthusiasts on site who were super passionate—along with many photographers who voluntarily took photos—was wonderful. The material of this outfit is a light mix of chiffon and satin, making it easy to perform large movements, though it wrinkles easily, so I had to straighten it out after every round of shooting. The post-processed blue light effects were kept subtle to preserve the original light and shadow layers, keeping the images looking natural.

Regarding the interpretation of this character, I think the key lies in an easygoing, elegant demeanor, so I tried to keep my movements soft and expansive while avoiding rigid lines. Although Shenzhen's weather was warm and humid, the air conditioning inside the venue was powerful, so the physical experience was fine. The most fulfilling part of this shoot was capturing the rich layers of the hair and headpiece; the red hair had high saturation, complementing the blue light effects to be visually captivating.

Certain small details, such as the white cloud motifs on the belt and the blue gem decorations on the bracelet, are clearly visible in the close-up shots, and I am very satisfied with the outfit's character fidelity. Finally, thanks to the photographer for capturing these moments, and thanks to every friendly visitor at the venue.
