Today, I wore DIM's 5th-anniversary Maid outfit out for a shoot. The color scheme of this outfit is classic: high-contrast black and white paired with an apron-style silhouette and delicate lace trim along the edges, creating a strong visual impact. The puff sleeves and cinched corset tailoring flatter body proportions beautifully. To complement the Gothic style flair of this dress, I matched it with a straight, long black wig and blunt bangs, topped with a headband featuring white frills and black ribbons, giving the entire look a high degree of completeness.
For makeup, I deliberately toned down facial rosiness, using a cooler base paired with deep, defined eye makeup to endow my facial features with a cool, aloof temperament. The location chosen was an outdoor space featuring Gothic arches and large stone monuments carved with English inscriptions for our Outdoor photography. The outdoor sunlight was abundant, and tree shadows cast dappled patterns across the stone walls. The black-and-white outfit contrasted sharply against the pale stone architecture, providing rich visual depth.
During the shoot, I experimented with different compositions. When standing, I shifted my center of gravity, using architectural pillars and stone monuments as support to better showcase the silhouette of the outfit. In seated poses, I extended my legs forward as much as possible, taking advantage of the platform shoes' height boost and the visual elongation of over-the-knee White stockings to make my leg lines look more slender on camera. The pairing of White stockings and small black bows looked extraordinarily textured under the sunlight.
Honestly, for the sake of great photos, these chunky-heeled platform shoes really put me through the wringer. The shoes themselves are heavy with thick soles; walking along stone-paved paths for hours made the soles of my feet ache intensely, especially when continually shifting poses and positions—every step was an exercise in gritting my teeth. Fortunately, the resulting photos were thoroughly satisfying; this bittersweet experience is probably just the destiny of a maid supremacist.
Overall, this outdoor shoot was a great success in harmonizing hair/makeup, costume, and location. Black-and-white Gothic style isn't just for studio shoots—it can also unleash an incredible ambiance in outdoor architectural settings. While wearing this Japanese fashion style ensemble out on an everyday errand might be a bit dramatic, recording it as a fashion piece was an utterly fantastic experience.
