This time I shot Patchouli, and the overall styling mainly focuses on a vintage dreaminess and a cozy, lazy home vibe. Let's talk about the design ideas for the costume and makeup first. To fit the character's mysterious yet soft temperament, the wig was specially chosen in this light purple color, with a fluffed-up treatment at the crown and sides of the ears, paired with the iconic thin semi-rimless glasses, instantly maximizing the intellectual atmospheric vibe. The headpiece required a huge amount of engineering, stacking a large amount of pink lace and wavy pleated ruffles, with some fine pearls sewn on top, which not only added visual layers but also made the overall styling look very heavy-crafted, requiring a lot of thought during securing. For the dress, a multi-layer layering design was adopted, with the main color scheme transitioning between deep pink and light pink, and the lightweight outer mesh tulle made the originally heavy skirt hem look exceptionally flowing. The cuffs and neckline were tied into bows with light purple ribbons, providing a strong sense of detail, and the mesh skirt would have a very light and nimble swaying motion when walking.
The props and scene for this shoot also carry a strong narrative sense. We intentionally chose a room with a vintage wooden headboard and floral wallpaper. This scene matches the corner of the magic library in my mind perfectly. The gorgeous prop book I held in my hand features golden embossed patterns on the cover, inlaid with imitation gems of different colors like purple and blue, reflecting a beautiful luster when held from different angles. The moment the book is flipped open, cooperating with the yellowed sheet music scattered on the bed, that vibe of being immersed in the world of knowledge and magic flows out very naturally. Yellowed sheet music papers like the ones in the picture were actually specially prepared by me for this shoot, which beautifully enriches the details and depth of field of the frame.
Regarding the coordination of lighting and photography, we deliberately chose a warm-toned indoor lighting strategy. The floor lamp with a pink striped lampshade on the left not only served as a fill light but also echoed the pink color scheme of the clothing nicely, making the color tone of the entire image more unified. In terms of composition and posture, I tried my best to showcase the lazy and serene side of the character—such as the playful state of blinking with one eye while lying on the bed, or the posture of quietly looking back at the camera while holding the book. These relaxed and casual movements, compared to rigid standing postures, better highlight that slightly clumsy yet highly composed trait in the character's personality. During the shooting process, because there were many layers of thin tulle and the headpiece was also relatively large, movements were actually constantly restricted, especially when sitting down, as it was very easy to press down the skirt hem, requiring continuous adjustment of angles to let the mesh skirt spread out beautifully. The prop book also got a bit heavy when held for a long time, but as long as it could ultimately present that serene, vintage, oil-painting-like texture everyone sees, all the preparatory work became meaningful. Actually, when preparing this set in our group, a lot of time was spent fighting against the complex fabrics and lace, but the final photos truly make one feel exceptionally comfortable. There is no need to deliberately strike flamboyant poses; just quietly staying on the soft bed, flipping through the books in hand, or casually picking up sheet music to daze out can perfectly express the lazy magical routine this photoset wants to convey. I hope this quiet atmosphere, carrying a tiny bit of fairy tale color, can make everyone feel the coziness of the shoot through the screen. This roleplay project became a beautiful entry for my anime cosplay journey, and I'm grateful for this smooth cosplay photography experience.
