[Hirasawa Yui cosplay] K-ON! Stage Memories, Bursting with Energy

The K-ON! stage theme photoshoot for "Don't say lazy" is finally out, and looking through the entire collection makes all the previous rehearsals and preparations feel completely worthwhile. This photo series reflects the dedication of all four of us, referencing details from the original anime MV and live concerts for everything from costume and prop selection to stage blocking. This time I portrayed Hirasawa Yui cosplay, with orange-brown short hair and a white dress accented with red and white elements, paired with black-and-white striped thigh-high stockings and a pink guitar—this styling is easily one of the most classic, adorable highlights in the hearts of all fans. Beside me, my partner cosplayed Akiyama Mio cosplay as the black-haired, straight-locked bassist, pairing a black dress with cyan-blue stockings and black-and-cyan striped arm warmers, which created a fantastic contrast and striking color clash, with leg lines looking especially stunning in medium shots. Keyboardist Kotobuki Tsumugi, with blonde hair, bright green stockings, and her signature bun, radiated pure elegance and ladylike grace simply standing there. Drummer Tainaka Ritsu cosplay brought crisp short hair and a black sleeveless top, blending seamlessly with the drum kit.

The light and shadow design on set was where our teamwork was truly tested. Stage lighting heavily utilized blue-purple spotlights, complemented by the original anime footage playing across the giant background screen to build immense atmosphere. Cooler light sources hitting the skin inevitably impact complexion tones, so on set we specially adjusted our foundation shade to a cooler, pale tone to match the fair, delicate texture typical of 2D characters as much as possible. During shooting, we also experimented with various camera angles—for instance, a low angle positioned directly in front of the stage elongated leg lines, complementing everyone's distinct hosiery to give the raw shots stronger visual impact that any Stocking lover will appreciate. Directing performance postures was equally delicate work; to look professional, we practiced strumming and fingering positions in front of mirrors beforehand, as well as the baton-twirling and drumstick swings of the keyboardist and drummer, striving to keep hands relaxed rather than stiff during candid snaps. Especially when capturing the two-person close-up, the photographer used foreground blur and side backlighting to make the black bass and pink guitar stand out even more vividly.

Pre-shoot preparation took several weekends, analyzing the anime's ending video practically frame by frame, while adding realistic wear, tear, and sheen to prop details. During post-processing, we preserved the authentic texture of the stage lights without excessive skin airbrushing, mainly refining the overall color palette to make the scene resemble a dazzling live concert rather than a staged studio shoot. This lineup perfectly encompasses the distinct auras of all four members: Yui's cuteness, Mio's coolness, Tsumugi's gentleness, and Ritsu's vivacity. Seeing those familiar lighting effects interweave on stage felt as if we truly stepped into that anime universe of the After School Tea Time. Finally, special thanks go to the photographer's expert candid captures and the support of on-site staff for immortalizing these vibrant moments. Every moment of coordination during this shoot was a delightfully fun experience that deepened our friendship through our shared passion. We hope everyone can feel that musical moment we poured our hearts into recreating—this is far more than just cosplay, but a genuine tribute to a classic, youthful band.
