Today, I completed this Hirasawa Yui cosplay shoot at Xingman Film Studio. The overall costume styling and set design were the textbook standard in my heart. A crisp white collared shirt paired with a soft yellow knit vest and dark grey pleated skirt, with the slender blue ribbon tie at the collar serving as the finishing touch. To match the canon design closely, I wore knee-high White tights cosplay socks and dark loafers. The wig was trimmed to shoulder length with blunt bangs and accented by the iconic twin yellow barrette clips on the left; after putting it on, I adjusted the angle in the mirror multiple times, striving to bring out her signature natural airheaded charm.
The classroom setting in the studio this time was staged with incredible thoughtfulness in this Classroom studio photography. Wooden desks and chairs, an easel in the background, potted plants and books on the shelves, plus a soccer ball resting on the floor and an acoustic guitar leaning nearby—these stacked details instantly conjured the warm atmosphere of an after-school club room. What delighted me most was the chalkboard covered in chalk doodles: uppercase letters, musical notes, hearts, stars, and the characters for 'K-ON!'. Standing in front of the board, it truly felt like being transported back into after-school club hours.
During shooting, photographer Brother He provided tremendous posing guidance. Instead of forcing exaggerated postures, we aimed to channel natural, everyday slice-of-life charm before the lens. For example, in the first series of poses, I lay prone across the desk, stretching both hands out toward the camera with fingers spread. Brother He captured a candid moment of surprise on my face; this interactive composition made the photo feel brimming with life. The pose sitting upright at the desk with fists clenched was designed to showcase a quieter, endearing state of obedience.
Later, I picked up a ukulele while seated on a chair. Although I play some musical instruments in daily life, projecting that effortless, carefree affection for music before the lens still required fine-tuning. I rested my center of gravity lightly against the instrument while gazing naturally into the camera, which also flatteringly highlighted the White tights cosplay and leg contours for a balanced, full composition. Standing with a blue backpack slung over my shoulder, as well as pushing up black-rimmed glasses, further layered emotional nuances into the entire set.
Studio shoots differ from outdoor locations; with controlled lighting and backdrops, the cosplayer must be much more proactive in driving emotional transitions. Throughout the session, I constantly reminded myself to relax my shoulders and let out that spontaneous, lively after-school spirit. In terms of color harmony, the pale yellow knit vest appeared wonderfully soft under warm studio lighting, creating a lovely contrast against the chalkboard's deep green and resulting in an exceptionally high hit rate of finished shots.
Every time I do a cosplay—from early costume prep and wig styling to collaborating with the photographer on set, and finally delivering the finished shots—the entire journey is deeply enjoyable. Although Classroom studio photography spares one from harsh winds and scorching sun, conveying a character's distinct soul in static frames still demands meticulous contemplation over every detail. This series stands as my heartfelt tribute to a slice-of-life character in K-ON!, and I hope this Anime-style photography conveys this lighthearted, joyful warmth to everyone.
