I completed this Hirasawa Yui cosplay shoot inside the classroom set at Xingman Film Studio. The moment I received this uniform, I was captivated by its fine craftsmanship: the deep navy blazer is sharply structured with golden buttons that catch the light with rich texture, layered over a pale yellow V-neck knit sweater vest tied at the collar with a delicate royal-blue ribbon bow. The bottoms feature a charcoal grey pleated skirt paired with knee-high White stockings and dark brown penny loafers, nailing the standard nostalgic academy aesthetic. The brown wig was razored to shoulder length, accessorized on the left side with two parallel yellow barrette clips that serve as the unmistakable hallmark of her look.
Weather conditions were pleasant on the day of the shoot, and the studio's Classroom scene was curated with immense thoughtfulness. The background wall featured a whiteboard pinned with handwritten music sheets, while a wooden rack beside it held an acoustic guitar, echoing the musical soul of the work. The dark olive chalkboard was chalked with English notes and cute doodles of stars, hearts, and musical notes. To bring out the best in the framing, I explored numerous poses: starting with holding the navy school bag across the chest or slinging it over one shoulder with a slight torso tilt to find my rhythm, before transitioning into livelier stances. These included hands on hips leaning playfully forward, raising both hands overhead with fingertips touching to form a gabled rooftop, and framing my eyes with thumbs and forefingers like a camera viewfinder. The most fun was pointing both index fingers gently against my cheeks with an earnest stare, capturing Yui's quintessential airhead charm.
Photographer He demonstrated exceptional mastery over light and shadow, utilizing light filtering through the whiteboard and window blinds to cast striped shadow patterns along the wall corners, enriching spatial depth. During the session, we discussed how body language breathes life into character personalities. Yui is inherently energetic yet adorably scatterbrained, so before the lens, I discarded the formal demureness used for other characters, exaggerating my physical gestures while keeping micro-expressions spontaneous and carefree. For instance, the hands-overhead pose simulated a spaced-out daydreaming moment; compared to poised sitting, this relaxed posture actually required greater emotional commitment.
Garment maintenance also demanded steady attention. The pleats of the skirt needed to stay crisp, and the White stockings easily wrinkled when shifting between seated and standing stances, requiring smoothing after each reset. The blazer buttons had to align cleanly, and the bow tie needed the perfect drape. Though subtle, these details dictate overall visual neatness. Because this was an indoor schoolroom shoot without heavy props, the magic lay in making organic use of desks, chairs, chalkboards, and bookshelves.
The entire shoot flowed seamlessly, capturing diverse emotional facets from quiet moments cradling the school bag to goofy, energetic gestures. A classroom environment inherently radiates youthful, slice-of-life warmth; paired with this classic uniform, it effortlessly conjures the nostalgic glow of a high school afternoon. This photo set serves as a cherished record of our collaboration and an immensely joyful cosplay experience.
