[Tainaka Ritsu Cosplay] K-ON! Never Graduates, a Remake Photoset After Twelve Years

On April 3, 2012, I finished shooting my first cosplay set on my school's rooftop with high school classmates. That winter wasn't particularly warm, but holding drumsticks in hand, inner passion burned hotter than cold winds. Resources back then were far less abundant than today—wigs carried cheap plastic feels, costumes were pieced together from tutorials, and lighting was manually done using reflector boards held by everyone. Despite green techniques, every shutter click brought me a step closer to the character.

Remaking it on November 16, 2023, felt like fulfilling a twelve-year promise. Beyond wearing Tainaka Ritsu's uniform again, it made up for past regrets. Azusa, who missed out back then, joined this time as all five members reunited after years. We studied character poses, subtle movements, and even adjusted prop bag strap lengths repeatedly. Cosplay today features professional aesthetics and techniques from wig trimming to base makeup refinement, moving away from rough guesswork toward consciously capturing subtle original expressions. For this shooting location, we specifically found a similar real rooftop to reenact walking up to railings.

The shooting process held unexpected episodes—strong winds messed up hair and blew skirts, yet no one grew impatient, finding those casual, natural moments fitting for their daily vibe. More than ten years altered our appearance while enriching acting depth. Past cosplay focused heavily on physical likeness, whereas now we explore character core personalities. Tainaka Ritsu is a carefree, vibrant drummer who built the Light Music Club with her friends; those casual daily interactions serve as youth's most precious notes. Many in our generation grew up watching this series, which healed countless youth years through warm daily moments.

In this 2023 set, I deliberately dialed back overly staged gestures in favor of natural, relaxed presentation. Team members infused unique personal charms into respective characters, creating genuine outing vibes among best friends. Comparing the two photos side by side, time's marks appear almost subtle, yet I know my passion and dedication for character portrayal have deepened. Fifteen years have passed since K-ON! aired, constructing not just a school club story, but the brightest puzzle piece in our youth memories. 'Light Music Club never graduates' isn't merely a slogan, but the best promise this work leaves us across long years.
