The moonlight softly filters through the gaps of the wooden corridor, spilling over the frame where silver hair and a talisman interweave. The protagonist of this shoot is none other than the long-awaited brand-new look of the Blue Archive character, Plana. To match the zombie cosplay theme and the serene atmosphere under the moonlight, a lot of early preparation ingenuity was poured into this set of photos.
In terms of makeup, to create an ethereal yet slightly mysterious visual effect, the base makeup underwent a matte treatment, discarding excessive bright colors and putting all the focus on the depth of the eye makeup and the three-dimensional look of the facial contours. The combination of blue contact lenses and white hair formed a highly intense visual contrast under the cold-toned lighting, beautifully blending that faint sense of detachment with a unique softness.
Styling the wig was also a step that heavily tested craftsmanship; the cooperation between two three-dimensional fluffy buns and long straight hair not only required styling spray to maintain volume, but also had to avoid looking cluttered under outdoor light and gentle breezes. Before every shoot, I would use a fine-tooth comb to gently comb along the direction of the hair strands, letting each strand maintain its optimal crystalline sheen and texture.
The accuracy of props is forever the soul of cosplay. The red ring floating above the head and the yellow talisman in front of the forehead were all handcrafted from scratch. Especially for the talisman paper, I intentionally made it look aged, thin, and translucent to pursue a more natural and realistic paper texture in the frame, and the runes on it were also hand-drawn bit by bit based on the character setting.
Creating the shooting atmosphere is equally critical. This wooden real-scene corridor inherently possesses a primitive aura; we utilized artificial thin mist and soft light equipment at dusk to simulate the haziness illuminated by moonlight during our cosplay photography session. The upper half full-body shots primarily showcase casual and lazy body language, whereas the close-up macro shots can more clearly exhibit hair/makeup details and costume textures. The costume selected a highly layered black-dominant main body paired with pure white ruffles and silk materials, making the color contrast even more distinct. This marks a special creation within my 2D daily life exploration.
Currently, the materials for this new photobook have already been shot, officially entering the post-processing layout and printing phase. Throughout the entire preparation process, from the self-polishing of costumes, makeup, and props to countless communications with the photographer, everything gave me more confidence in the final presentation of the work. I hope this new photobook can smoothly meet friends who love this style in the near future, delivering this unique nighttime temperament in the form of physical book pages.
