Shooting this Bunny girl cosplay look of Shimoe Koharu from Blue Archive focused on recreating the character's iconic black-and-white color-blocked design and detailed accessories. The overall styling revolves around black-and-white color division; for hair, I chose a short, pale pinkish-white wig paired with the signature massive white bunny-ear headband and a black metallic halo headpiece. Securing these two pieces required some ingenuity, as they could easily shift during movement.
The costume is the core of this look: the bodysuit features a black-and-white paneled design where the white center fits snug against the torso while the black panels on both sides sculpt the contours, a visual division that nicely accentuates body lines. The black feathered wings attached to the back are an intriguing accessory; although their fluffy texture occasionally snagged on the background after mounting, wearing them instantly completed the character's persona, forming a subtle harmony with the black-and-white bodysuit.
For the hands and arms, I paired black fingerless gloves with wide white cuffs, deliberately adding a red armband to the left arm. This red accent was crucial, breaking through the monotony of the black-and-white palette and adding a striking visual focal point to the frame.
For the lower body, I opted for White high-heeled boots over the knee, adorned with black decorative lines along the sides, maintaining tight visual cohesion with the upper body's monochrome palette. For the setting, we chose a stone brick wall bathed in magenta lighting; this mysterious ambient lighting created a delightful color contrast against the bunny girl outfit in this Anime-style photography set. The adjacent wooden shelf and desk served as foreground and background props, preventing the frame from looking empty. In prop arrangement, we deliberately introduced small objects like wooden crates beneath the table and surrounding ornaments to enrich the visual depth.
During actual shooting, maintaining a seated posture on an elevated tabletop while controlling the position of the white cube prop in hand posed quite a challenge. Raising the prop with my right hand required aesthetic height and angle precision, ensuring the hand didn't obstruct facial contours. To prevent the white boots from scuffing or staining the tabletop, I cycled through several seated angles throughout the shoot.
To highlight the outfit, makeup was kept clean and sharp, focusing on strengthening the eye contours to make the gaze more focused and piercing, aligning with the character's demeanor. The wig was trimmed beforehand to refine the layers of the bangs and ends, ensuring that under the magenta ambient light, the soft texture of the hair strands was fully preserved.
The transition between the upper and lower halves of this costume is cut quite high, requiring extra caution against accidental exposure during reclining or leaning-back angles; the black mesh laid across the desk served as subtle visual coverage from certain angles, turning into a helpful background element.
White high-heeled boots tend to reflect light under studio lamps; precisely controlling the specular highlight points was an iterative adjustment process. We tuned the side light angles multiple times during shooting, striving for even highlights across the boot surface rather than chaotic, glaring hot spots, ensuring the costume's premium texture was uncompromised.
For props, gripping the white cube required a natural yet tension-filled pose, conveying the character's subtle commanding presence through a slight turn of the wrist. The wings added a bit of a burden when posing throughout the shoot—turning slightly would bump into the wall or bookshelf, forcing us to reposition several times to accommodate the background. Fortunately, the vintage texture of the stone brick created an intriguing contrast with this black-and-white bunny suit, yielding a very satisfying studio photoshoot atmosphere.
The shoot maintained a very focused atmosphere throughout. Despite many details to manage in styling and wearing the costume, the magenta light casting across the hair and White high-heeled boots, combined with the garment lines, delivered a richer presence in front of the lens than anticipated. Choosing an indoor staged set shielded us from natural light and weather disruptions, allowing me to pour all my energy into in-front-of-camera performance and presence management for this Shimoe Koharu cosplay in Anime-style photography—making for a thoroughly fulfilling studio experience.
