Tried out this dress version of Serika's look, and the light and environment on the shooting day turned out great for photos. The overall styling uses black as the main tone, and from the tailoring to the details, it fits the character's usual style closely. The dress-style skirt features many layered ruffles, paired with black velvet-textured decorative flower knots, shifting the visual focus to the upper body.
The headpiece part is one of the highlights of this look; the pink semi-transparent halo combined with the cat ears shape offers extremely high recognition. To complement the overall atmosphere, I chose cool-toned purplish-red colored contacts for the makeup, and kept the lip color from being too vibrant to preserve the character's unique cool yet slightly tsundere vibe. The black lace choker and fine chain pendant at the neckline make the lines from the collarbone to the neck look more harmonious.
During the shoot, the photographer @HanChan-WenJin brilliantly captured images of different states. For instance, in the shot standing on one leg with a black rose, it was actually quite hard to keep the body stable while making the skirt flare up just right; it took a few tries to find the center of gravity. There is also the backlit shot where the light hitting the skirt material generated subtle reflections, bringing out the surface texture of the fabric, a detail I am quite satisfied with. To give the dress a fluffy look, several layers of stiff mesh tulle were used for the lining; although it adds great layers when walking around, posing in a light one-legged stance was still a bit of a test for my balance.
The tailor for this costume did a great job securing the shoulder straps and bodice position, so it wouldn't slip off even with large ranges of movement during the shoot, which was very considerate. The waist design of the dress is very form-fitting, but the lightness of the overall skirt hem neutralizes a lot of the heaviness; when spinning around or tilting slightly, the silhouette looks very natural. This set of images doesn't over-elongate or excessively smooth the skin, preserving the skin texture and the fabric fiber grains, which is exactly the effect I anticipated.
Going out for outdoor photography actually involves bringing many miscellaneous small props, but this time it was mainly just a black rose and the halo, so it was quite convenient to manage. The glass reflection on the railing next to me mirrored the distant sky, and when the sun is brilliant, the outdoor natural light highlights the layers of black even better. As part of participating in the Guangzhou Baonly event, capturing this look serves as my personal expression of the character. Putting heart into matching the details always reveals some little fun on-site at the shoot for this Anime cosplay project.
