This set of Touhou Project Cirno cosplay Convention photos was shot at the convention venue against a dark studio-style backdrop. To evoke a cool, crisp feel, we deliberately chose this dark background to accentuate the translucent sheer blue of the dress. The skirt features even more layers than typical Lolita dresses, with sheer fabric billowing into fluffy curves, red wavy scalloped piping on the collar and cuffs, and the oversized orange ribbon on the chest serving as the most striking warm-toned accent of the styling. The holographic crystal wings on my back were exaggerated 3D props; mounting and removing them was truly exhausting, but as soon as the light hit, they refracted delicate rainbow patterns that matched the character's ice attributes perfectly, making all the effort worthwhile.
During shooting, the focus was primarily on capturing dynamic motion. Given the character's distinct personality, movements needed to be larger and more expressive—conveying that fearless, confident, yet delightfully goofy charm. I experimented with various poses, such as pointing forward, lifting the skirt hem to showcase leg lines (White tights cosplay / lace socks styling), and sitting on the ground looking into the lens, all capturing strong visual tension on camera. Photographer Wakaba-sensei was wonderful at finding angles, faithfully reproducing the garment's texture even in the venue's cluttered lighting environment.
For facial makeup, a touch of glitter and pink eyeshadow was paired with blue contact lenses and a light blue bob wig, giving the face a youthful yet tsundere flair. Complemented by white lace socks and platform shoes, the overall visual presentation was clean, brisk, and subtly over-the-top in that signature anime style. Although it drizzled slightly on the day of the shoot and the lighting was unstable, color grading in post-processing balanced the warm and cool tones from the crystal reflections, harmonizing the entire composition. Cosplaying Touhou Project characters always brings a sense of nostalgia, especially since this costume was such a physical test. Running around the venue in platform shoes was tough, but seeing the final result made every bit of effort to recreate the character worthwhile. The entire shoot made for a relaxing afternoon at the convention, resulting in a wonderful Convention photos experience.
