[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Touhou Project's Campus Backyard Magician

This Marisa Kirisame cosplay outdoor shoot done secretly in the school backyard has finally been sorted into freshly edited photos today.

Every time I cosplay Marisa, I can feel a unique kind of joy—that slightly mischievous demeanor, ready to cast magic at any moment, fits perfectly when captured in this cozy, grounded corner. To avoid bumping into acquaintances, we picked a super tricky time slot, sneaking in stealthily to shoot quickly and run away. Although the whole process was rushed, it was filled with an unusually thrilling fun.

This time I wore the classic black-and-white outfit. The blonde twintail wig looked exceptionally bright under the sunlight, and I deliberately braided the side braids loosely and naturally, making it fit both the character's 2D daily feel and flutter naturally when the wind blew. For makeup, I emphasized the eyes, paired with tawny contact lenses, hoping to faithfully recreate the magician's focused yet slightly tsundere expression.

The costume's design details are remarkably rich. Beyond the iconic wide-brimmed hat with big ruffles and star decorations, the black-and-white layering of inner and outer pieces, plus the waist belt and leg strap designs, made putting it on far more complex than it looks. Just securing that oversized hat and adjusting those lace ruffles took a considerable amount of time. However, standing under the sunlight fully dressed made all the tedious preparations completely worth it.

In terms of props, this long-handled broom and the large umbrella/hat truly enhanced the atmosphere while becoming the biggest physical burden during the shoot. The broom, in particular, easily got tangled with surrounding grass or tree branches when changing poses. Holding it while keeping a natural expression somewhat tested arm strength and balance.

For Cosplay photography, the photographer used many wide-angle low-angle perspectives this time, which were especially great for building an infinitely extending spatial feel among the trees and on this red wooden bridge. Coupled with fantastic weather that day—blue skies, white clouds, and lush green grass as the backdrop—the overall composition achieved a very expansive and translucent visual effect. During post-processing photo editing, we didn't overly alter the original bright natural light, simply adjusting color temperature and contrast slightly while pulling down highlights to give the final photos a warmer, genuine natural quality.

Although the school backyard terrain was somewhat rugged—with steps and slopes making it tricky to walk on—it was precisely this contrast between daily scenery and fantasy outfit that gave this Outdoor photography set its unique memory points. I really hope to continue building Marisa across different seasons and outdoor scenes in the future, showcasing even more intricate details and lively charm of this costume.
