Shooting under the scorching summer heat this time took considerable energy, from preparing costumes and wigs to scouting practical locations. Portraying The Blue Bird cosplay, this character styling felt practically custom-tailored for summer—the blue-toned long dress merged harmoniously with the blue sky, offering a visually cooling effect, though the real-world stifling heat was undeniable. Wigs easily lose volume in high temperatures, so between takes, I was always on standby holding hairspray to ensure every stray hair and ahoge stayed in its proper place. For the photographer, capturing a winged look while accommodating dynamic motion was a true test of skill. We ran repeatedly across the grass to capture the fleeting moments of swirling skirts and graceful gestures, pausing every few shots to review previews and adjust camera angles. Made of lightweight fabric, the skirt created a natural flowing rhythm whenever caught by the breeze.

My partner portraying Liz cosplay performed exceptionally professionally—carrying a basket filled with red strawberries while I held a bouquet of flowers, we strived to recreate the gentle tenderness and longing between the characters. What I loved most in this set was our interaction: resting my head on her lap while sitting on a stone, or her watching me run across the grassy slope from the steps. That contrast between quiet serenity and lively vitality beautifully conveyed the baseline personalities of both characters. The makeup was also kept natural, avoiding heavy eyeliner and relying mainly on the color blocking of the wig and the bold hues of the costume to bring out texture. The most enchanting aspect of Outdoor photography is its irreproducibility—the sunlight past 4 PM, the shimmering light on the water surface, and the genuine background trees and lush grass all blended seamlessly with the costumes and props.

Before the shoot, we specifically bought fresh strawberries for the basket to make the prop feel authentic. Costumes were also chosen in relatively breathable fabrics, doing our best to maintain the character's weightless feel while mitigating the discomfort of the heat. Framing shots by the lakeshore and water took extensive thought as well; water ripples served as the perfect backdrop to give the frame greater depth. What made this creation so smooth was thorough upfront communication. We listed pose references and mapped out the progression of emotional nuances in advance, allowing us to complete the shoot efficiently in the heat.

Although we were drenched in sweat and our wigs were messy after wrapping up, being able to interpret the emotional bond between Liz and the Blue Bird in Sound! Euphonium in our own way was deeply rewarding in itself. Recreating characters under natural light tests one's understanding of lighting and composition. I have always believed that Cosplay is a multi-dimensional art form—beyond replicating looks, character demeanor, nuanced movements, and even the surrounding ambient atmosphere are all crucial elements. Sharing this set of Anime-style photography serves as a wonderful wrap-up for this summer.
