[Qingxiao cosplay] Cool-Toned Blue and White in a Japanese-style garden

This time, I'm sharing the official photoshoot for this Qingxiao cosplay. To align with the intrinsic temperament of the character Qingxiao, we used an abundance of ice blue and pure white in our overall color palette, aiming to bring that cool, translucent, and ethereal aesthetic to its absolute peak.

A great deal of thought went into fabric selection, utilizing semi-sheer chiffon and pearlescent textiles extensively. Such materials demand strict lighting—they only look stunning when light penetrates through them cleanly. In particular, the flowing ribbons on the hem and sleeves feel weightless when walking and catch dynamic motion before the camera with ease. The embroidery along the neckline is remarkably intricate; to highlight these details, we deliberately scheduled several close-up shots during the session. While ensuring aesthetic grace, the skirt also flatters leg contours; paired with White stockings and white stiletto heels, it elongates the legs to appear straighter and taller on camera. Although this Ancient style attire looks effortlessly celestial from the outside, getting dressed was quite an ordeal—layer upon layer inside and out, plus a tight corset cinched firmly to accentuate the waistline. Together with wearing the wig and styling, it took considerable prep time, all to present the most flawless and fitting 2D state before the lens.

On the day of the shoot, we chose a traditional Japanese-style garden as our backdrop. Wooden lattice shoji doors, dark polished flooring, warm-yellow floor lanterns, and tatami cushions beside us filled the scene with narrative depth. The photographer ingeniously used blurred white blossoms in the foreground, imbuing the frame with superb depth of field and a hazy, poetic beauty.

For props, we prepared a sword with illumination effects. Because the on-site lighting was relatively strong, the sword's blue glow was strikingly eye-catching, perfectly echoing the character's overall color palette while carrying substantial heft in hand. The first photo utilized a low upward angle, which effectively stretched body proportions, rendering the silhouette tall and slender. Paired with deliberate hand gestures and a distant gaze, it exuded a commanding presence, reminiscent of an agile swordsman. The second photo captured the classic over-the-shoulder close-up—an angle that better conveys eye contact and emotional resonance, creating powerful visual impact against the blurred foreground blossoms.

While shooting, I had to consistently maintain an expression that was cool yet lively and agile, which really tested facial muscle control—completely different from posing with a casual smile. The photographer's fill lighting was spot-on, not only rendering the skin smoother and porcelain-white, but also bringing out the translucent texture of the delicate sheer fabric. Because the heels were quite high and posing on wooden floors for hours was demanding, my feet were exhausted by the end of the day.

Post-processing focused mainly on color grading. We retained the cool, aloof blue-and-white foundation, pulling down the peripheral ambient light to anchor visual attention squarely on the facial features and leg lines. The lighting and shadows were handled softly, letting a clear, luminous sheen emanate from the cool tones without looking flat.

From initial makeup trials and location scouting to on-site lighting, choreography, and final retouching, everyone invested tremendous energy into this project. Cosplay is an arduous passion, but seeing the finished photos makes every second worthwhile. Bringing a character faithfully to life and conveying their inner spirit is the ultimate sense of achievement. Portraying Qingxiao this time was immensely satisfying, and nailing down the overall atmosphere felt like turning in a wonderful personal project.
