For this Arknights Amiya shoot, the very first element finalized was the pairing of the white dress with the black steed. To capture the epic grandeur and crisp, chill magical atmosphere in the frame, we poured immense thought into set construction and lighting color grading.
Beginning with the costume itself: the copious lace, cascading ruffles, and sweeping white cape demanded meticulous arranging of every tier while donning. Visually, expansive fields of pure white required a profound black to anchor the composition, making this black horse draped in heavy metallic barding the ultimate counterpart. Shooting with a live mount severely tests coordination: this black horse was towering and spirited. Upon mounting, engaging my core to remain steady while ensuring the skirt fluttered gracefully and the lance was gripped securely placed tremendous demands on core strength.
The weapon in hand served as the core light source for this set. For the lance radiating an ethereal blue glow from its tip, I deliberately amplified the light diffusion and floating particle dispersion in post-production, ensuring the cool-toned magical glow illuminated my profile and facial contours. The combination of bunny ears and black horn headpieces, framed by flowing hair and backlighting, forged a striking contrast balancing sci-fi edge and rich fantasy colors. To emphasize Amiya's trademark blend of gentle exterior and resolute inner fortitude, I explored varied lines of sight before the lens—low-angle upward perspectives maximally projected the character's imposing presence and aura.
The setting was staged within European-style architecture reminiscent of a sanctuary: white Roman pillars, cascading drapes, accent blossoms, and candelabras all placed the character within a surreal, pristine realm. Regarding lighting, beyond the key light illuminating the subject, supplementary cool-toned fill lights were introduced to echo the blue magic on the weapon. Paired with a post-grading palette of low saturation and high contrast, the frames look remarkably clean yet pack intense visual impact.
In capturing the character's demeanor, I avoided overly dramatic expressions, relying instead on a calm, unwavering gaze to accompany each pose. Whether in dynamic action captures of rearing the horse with raised lance or close-up shots with a subtle hand lift, I sought to project Amiya's gentle yet formidable nature before the camera. The brilliance of this set lies in its cohesive visual palette—the classic tri-color scheme of black, white, and blue never fails. Preparing outdoor shoots with massive props and living mounts always demands exhaustive preparation, but beholding the light, shadow, and atmosphere in the finished frames made every ounce of exhaustion worthwhile. Though demanding, the final outcome was deeply gratifying, making this fantasy-infused creative endeavor truly unique.
