This set of photos for Wuthering Waves' Qingxiao was actually shot quite a while ago, and today I finally have time to sort it out and share the behind-the-scenes details with everyone.

First, let's talk about the outfit. This traditional Chinese style design for Qingxiao is truly exquisite. The combination of white and blue gives a cool and aloof feeling at first glance. To restore that translucent feel of the original artwork, several kinds of fabrics were chosen for the clothes, with multiple layers inside and out, so that it would have that flowing sense of layers when moving. The heaviest part is the sword; acrylic material plus meticulous painting, although it was very tiring to swing, the translucent texture when lifting it was truly stunning. To capture the instant of swinging the sword, my arm was genuinely a bit sore. The wig was also restyled, incorporating hair wax and styling spray to maintain that swept-by-the-wind yet still sharp arc.

In terms of makeup, to fit the cool and aloof setting, emphasis was placed on facial negative space and the sharpness of the eye makeup. The blue contact lenses couldn't be too abrupt and had to echo the hair color, with a slight reddish blush blended at the outer corners of the eyes to add a bit of the character's sharpness. The action design on the shooting day also took a lot of thought. This outfit is a combination of a short skirt, white stockings, and white high heels. To present better proportions in front of the lens, I was on my toes or finding angles the whole time to make the leg lines look smoother. The pose in Figure 1 where I lift my leg and hold the sword actually requires very strong core strength; although there is wire assistance, maintaining balance is really hard, and you must pay attention to tightening your core, otherwise it will affect your posture. Figure 2 where I sit on the railing—to present that dangerous yet fascinating contrasting calmness, I deliberately adjusted my gaze and shoulder relaxation, holding the sword horizontally in front of me to present a defensive yet confident state. As for the sword-raising photos, it's not just physical work; you also have to control your expression so it doesn't break, because the wind is strong and the hair easily sticks to the face, requiring picking the most perfect frame out of numerous captures, which heavily tests hand stability.

The shooting scene was chosen in an outdoor forest, where natural light filtering through leaves creates mottled light and shadow, and combined with artificially placed smoke bombs, the atmosphere is fully maxed out. The backlight effect of sunlight through the treetop illuminates the hair strands, and the visual effect is very shocking. During post-processing, I also communicated with the photographer to retain the skin texture as much as possible, lean the color tone towards cool tones, strengthen the blue-white contrast, reduce excessive skin smoothing, and let the image retain a bit of realism. When processing the reflection on the sword blade, specialized brightening was also done to highlight the icy crystal texture of the weapon.

Actually, every time I do cosplay, it's a conversation with the character I love, and Qingxiao's resilience and coolness gave me a deep appreciation during this shoot. This set of photos can be considered a deep tribute to this character. I hope everyone likes this kind of visual effect, and I will continue to refine better light and shadow and action presentations.
